Default DRL for 97 model and Down

So this weekend I was replacing a bunch of bulbs on the sons 99. I really like the look of the DRL's on during the day and have wanted to do it to my 97 for sometime. Today I ordered a Hamsar 45060 high beam DRL module. I'll be installing next week. Hoping to try and do everything under the dash if I can find and get to the wring. I'll take some pics and keep you guys posted.

That sounds pretty interesting. I hope it works out well. Do you still use the same bulb once the module is installed?

Yeah, you can upgrade the bulbs to a Silver Star or something like that. That's what we did in his so it wasn't so yellow looking.

It wouldn't be the high beams, but why not just leave the headlights in the on position? That way, they're on for day and night use, and they always turn themselves off when you shut off the car.

Bulb life would suffer on the lows. The highs are voltage limited so they don't really use up a whole lot of life, plus the high beams aren't typically in use all the time anyway.

As a side bar, I *hate* the way lexus put drls on the 99s. If either drl relay dies, you have no high beams. I found that out the hard way on my 95.

^ Er, I don't know anything about that... How do cars with factory DRLs deal with that? Do they voltage limit the low beams? Is there any reason a voltage limiter couldn't be added to our lows?

They added 3 relays up in front of the washer bottle in conjunction with the 2 high beam fuses that just cut the voltage to the high beams when running the drls. I was missing one of the relays off the donor car and my high beams were dead until I found the replacement. The bad part is, they aren't your standard toyota relays...one has a really funny pin pattern and the other is a single box about 3 inches long that has 2 plugs running to it. I got lucky and found all 3 relays still on the mounting bracket on ebay for 35 bucks. My 95 sc already had the mounting holes ready to go
