Talking Whats Faster Stock 5spd Sc300 or Stock Auto Sc400?

Just as the subject says whats faster in a 1/4mile and then so on

Id like to know if the sc300 spd can keep up with a sc400 auto over 80mph cuz my 400 is a beast after 80.

Thx

I'd put my bets on the SC400. The only benefit the 6 cylinder SC300 has over the V8 SC400, is that it can be purchased in a 5 speed (and yes, it can be turboed- but we're talking about stock vs stock). Once you reach 80 MPH, however, the benefits of a 5 speed are gone- and the benefits of a *****-out V8 kick in.

I don't care about numbers, the sc400 pulls HARD. especially in the midrange from 40 to 80. Without big mods, i refuse to believe the 300 is a contender.

Ok well i have a sc400 right now i wana get a Black 5spd Sc300 but without puting down 6k for a turbo at least the first 3months. So what will it take to make the sc300 run as fast or faster then a sc400 with out Turbos, Superchargers or Nos?

That is some funny crap.... "A very steep hill"...... When I test drove a 300 vs a 400 I didn't notice the 400 being THAT much faster then a 300 ??? is the 400 advantage only in the 40 - 80.... Also What about a TC on the 300, what is that about 1500 installed maybe ??? Why do you want to get a 5 spd 300 over a 400 soo bad ???

the ONLY one that passed me was a modified one with the WR ECU and exhaust and a WR intake... and he didn't pass me until over 100mph; and this was with a TERRIBLE launch... with a normal launch it would have been more like 120

both cars are slow as hell anyway stock... the SC4 does not pull HARD after 80; at least not any harder stock than my SC3 5-speed did

LasVegasSC: stock it will
but if you wanna put on the lengths, get a intake, exhaust, and AFC and you'll take SC4s no problem and make the powr to run mid 14s with a decent launch
there's several people on this board and even more on the supraforums board that gained 20rwhp+ from just adding a SAFC and tuning their fuel

and he didn't pass me until over 100mph;
dang bean, where do you guys plan to drive your cars everyday, the autobaun? lol, j/k

the 6 is boringly slow in day to day driving. unfortunately most people in front of you in traffic don't drive on the redline. If so, the 6 would be a pleasureable experience. for day to day driving up to 4500 rpm (average shift point) the sc4 effortlessly guides the car to 80 mph while the guy in the 6 is on the redline to achieve any performance. Notice i said DAY TO DAY. You have to be in this thing everyday, drive with people on the road every day, and run the same speed as the 200 idiots sharing the road in front of you. you can't always be on the redline. the car will feel much slower.

the difference is the torque of the 400's v-8 moves the car with little effort in traffic and power is always there. if you want to be the guy in the 300 sitting on the redline so you can sprint out in traffic, be my guest. the strain on the engine of the 6 always running at high rpm v/s the 400's potential power with less strain at lower rpm everyday - day in and day out makes me tired just thinking about it.

The 4-speed auto tranny is without a question the bane of the SC300 and SC400. When you use a 5-speed SC300, you gain a major advantage off the line because the 4-speed's 1-2 shift is painfully slow, 2-3 is not as bad. By all advertised numbers, the SC400 is always supposed to be faster than any SC300. Lexus intended for it to be that way. I guess depending on both drivers, and how hard you mash your gears, an SC300 5-speed could beat an SC400. I wouldn't discount the SC400's rolling acceleration though, I played chicken with a Viper GTS on a two lane freeway interchange and held pace from 30-70mph, where I let off because I didn't want to chance a curved overpass at +80mph. PS: the Viper guy was very cool, even gave me a thumbs up and a smile afterwards

Ive seen an sc400 and an sc300 5spd go at it a few times and the sc300 5spd took it considerably. Im sure that sc400 was older. I would think that the newer sc400 would easily beat a 5spd sc300. I thought I saw somewhere that the newer 400's run mid 14s stock? I dunno.....

Bean,
How much would it cost to get the tuning done for the s-afc?

it's a bit more complicated than that. weight being the major factor.

sc300- aluminum wheels.
sc400- chrome

sc300 v-6 engine weight
sc400- v-8 engine weight (few hundred pounds difference)

sc300 - 5 speed tranny
sc400 - auto (heavier again)

even the radio comes into play, more sc400's got NAK's than sc300's and the amp is an extra 15 pounds. not a lot by itself, but start adding it all up. The list goes on. All things considered, the sc400 pulls it's weight (no pun intended) against the 300 thanks to a wonderful v-8.

The difference in curb weight between the SC300 and SC400 is trivial. In 1992 the SC400 weighed 81 pounds more than the SC300. In 2000 the SC400 weighed 95 pounds more than the SC300.

The larger, wider, heavier wheels of the SC400 might be bogging it down slightly, or it may be keeping the traction on the ground? I found it pretty damn easy to burn out with stock wheels on. Maybe the SC400 has a more parasitic belt drive system?

I'd say the major difference is in the torque produced. In 1992, you're looking at 210tq @ 4800rpm versus 260tq @ 4400rpm. In 2000, the margin increased to 220tq @ 4000rpm compared to 300tq @ 4000rpm. The gearing is the same, but with more torque, the SC400 has more pull off the line.

lex400sc, i do not doubt your weight ratings you specified to be correct. However, i know for a fact the chrome wheels alone had that much of a weight difference, and the engine weight is a few hundred pounds.

with that... the sc300 gained weight somewhere else to only be that much lighter. now... where?
