When the SC was introduced, Lexus was was still the new kid on the luxury car block. They took direct aim at yuppie and mature Mercedes customers. If anything, the SC's were the Poor Man's 300CE / 500SEC. But from my perspective, they were only the Poor Man's Dreams.

Superficially speaking, the older Solara did make the Camry sedan look a little better and to me, when I was briefly considering a Camry, that caught my eye. I'm glad I didn't go down that road but I can't knock the Solara because if I was wanting a Camry, they'd be an option to consider, albeit briefly for a few reasons. But to compare it to the SC is like saying "shetland pony vs thoroughbred"
