SC people give me your wisdom
I currently own an ES. dont hate on me the ES is a great car I love mine. But your Sc's intrigue me alot. I love how they look and the interior is pretty much like my Es which is a 96, but im young and your cars look more sleek and fast. They look fast; are they fast???Compared to an Es. And is there anyone who has made the switch from es to sc??? Also are they hard to find, I live in NW Indiana??? If anyone has any input and pros and cons about the car i would appreciate it. I want one soon!

I'll say this...
I drove an es once because i was interested in it to be a backup incase my sc went down. it felt like the e-brake was on the whole time i was driving it.. the ride was too spongy for my taste, and i couldn't get any power out of it compared to my sc. I held an open mind and drove another and had the same result.
The sc rides much stiffer, has triple the power (it FEELS like), and overall has a much better feeling of depth to it. The es felt "light" in the construction v/s my sc.
I came in with an open mind, and i actually like the es's styling a bit, but left with my sc and no intentions of buying an es thereafter. This may be a reference for you to go by.

i currently own a 98 es 300 and a 2003 g35 and i'm also looking to buy a sc300. you just can't compare the es to the sc. the es300 is a sedan.. It's a family car the sc isn't. The sc3 is the pimp car =x.

The ES is a family car and the driver's seat is really uncorfortable to me. I can't wait to park it. The SC is a driver's car. Once I get rolling in it, I don't want to stop. Look in the local papers. Find an SC to test drive or a least sit in. You'll quickly see there is no comparison.
Rare? Yes getting to be so, particularily for later years when production was much lower. Try a national search on AutoTrader and you'll only get about 30 units, mostly newer ones by dealers. Ebay will have a similar number, mostly older ones.

Hey George94, if you happen to see a white 92 sc400 cruising down rte 30 or 41, that would be me. It`s very clean and only has 54,000 miles on it. But unfortunetaly, its not for sale.

George I live in Shererville, have a Crown pt mailing address and a St. John phone #!!!! I live over by rohrman park baseball fields. I can see Hyles Anderson college from my backyard. As for winter driving, I just bought the car from my parents. They are moving to Fla., and had 3 cars and wanted to get rid of one. This Lexus has only seen 2 winters, and I plan to keep it in the garage during the winter and just use my 4x4 ranger for winter use. My dad however did mention that he had to place sand bags in the trunk when he did drive it those 2 winters.

george94,
If you buy a sc don't plan on driving it in the winter I live in illinois and drove mine last winter and I can tell you this that's the last winter it will be drove in. your es will do a much better job in the winter than the sc will I have an 97 sc400 and in a couple years will be upgrading to 2000 model hopefully these cars are hard to find at the moment unless you want to pay out the a%# for them drive one and compare for yourself, plus with a sc300 you are able to do many more upgrades than on a sc400.

Don't underestimate the importance of proper tires. I'm running Michelin V rated all season tires, and I made it through winter without a snag. Michelin rates their tires on a scale of 1-10 on many different aspects- one of which is snow traction (head to Michelin's web site to compare). If you pick a good V rated all season tire with a traction rating of around 10, you will be amazed at how absolutely fine you will be in the winter time with an SC400. It can't come close to the traction of my full sized Toyota Land Cruiser, but for general highway driving back and forth from work- the SC worked just fine with the Michelin's.

There are a lot of good points here, ES is front drive vs. the SC's rear drive. But unless you get an older SC without traction control, you're ok. I sold my 98 ES for a 93 SC400. I must say, the smoothness of the engine (V8) isn't even close to being comparable. The SC moves with such grace, it's as if the whole car is coated with teflon. The ES is a great car, don't get me wrong. It never skipped a beat, and it returned 30mpg once. But the ride is a bit cushy, it doesn't fit like a glove as the SC's tend to, and it doesn't have the automatic high social status the SC's do. I hope not to offend any ES owners but, after driving my SC400 for a few weeks, I can get into my mom's ES and the engine feels plain rough. I know it's not, because it is, after all, a Lexus. You just have to decide between a practical, economical, conservative profile VS a sexy, 2 door sports coupe. Apples and oranges. . .
