Now if I can find the thread on this ..eek1:

Every 3000 miles or 4 months whichever comes first w/ valvoline motor oil, mileage alone isn't the only reason to change your oil dirt, dust, condesation, ect.

3000miles with mobil dino oil.. for the sc
3000 miles with mobil 1 for the supra
5000 miles with mobil 1 for the eclipse
3000 miles castrol gtx for the laser..

pure one filter for the dino oils and mobil 1 filter for the other 2

Just a side note changing the oil in the eclipse and laser is much more user friendly than those damn 2jz's

I think every 2,500 miles is a waste of oil and filter. I don't mind you wasting your money changing so frequently, but oil is a commodity man! That stuff can last indefinitely and only really gets dangerously dirty around 10,000 miles under our conditions. 5,000 miles isn't a bad mileage to go by if you're trying to be frugal. I wouldn't go longer than that if you're aiming for longevity of the motor though.

I change it every 3-4k, depending on when I have the time, using Castrol GTX... Uh, every 5-10k will KILL your car. Mine is living proof - owner before me change it every 8-10k, now I have fried piston rings and a main bearing on the verge of spinning. I'm lookiung for a new engine....hence the plea in my sig

if you're talking about the maintance light.. that only comes on every 7k miles of the car from the time of being reset.
every 5k miles is when you're suppost to change your oil.

i do mines at 3k for the heck of it.

synthetic oil is bad for your car if your car has more then 80k miles.
i have so many people tell me how good it is, but always coming back saying they have problems. Because the oil leak through the seals and does lots of damage.
synthetic

it's only good if you have a new car. because your seals are good to withhold the oil.

People, do not be misled by the uninformed.

I use synthetic with 113k and have no problems whatsoever. Using syn in your high mileage engine will not cause any problems. The worst that can happen is that is leaks a bit.

As for the Peter Scott comment, that was 100% uncalled for. Peter is a man for whom I have great respect. I don't know anybody else that does the extensive, scientific testing that he does. Not to mention the great website that he hosts http://planetsoarer.com/

Thankyou for the invitation NRG !

For a 3000 mile interval Mobil 1 had the same wear contaminants in my engine oil as regular oil. I paid money at a lab to get the oil samples analysed. Full oil analysis data sheets available here:
http://planetsoarer.com/OilAnalysis/OilAnalysis.htm

Oil starvation (sludging, blocked oil galleries from additives, low oil level) and overheating are big killers of engines

I don't know how people rate oil by looking at it during a change or other anecdotal evidence - I don't have those superpowers!

Didn't have any leak problems on my car. Common answers to leak problems are here:
http://www.bestsyntheticoil.com/amsoil/seals.shtml

The above site is sponsored by Amsoil.

Without a doubt full syn oil has some superior properties - I always change to full syn before a weekend of track sprinting.

With an extended drain period using full syn consider changing the filter at least more often than the oil. All the extended drain oils recommend this. The filter may clog and go into bypass mode long before the oil degenerates.

Oil always looks better on the dipstick. Oil that looks clear on the stick most often looks black and yucky when drained into a pan.

I change every 3000 miles or before a track session.

A 15W diesel oil also has an excellent additve package and is good value - check it out next time you are shopping for oil.

There are also many demonstrations for oil additives around nowadays - many of them use extreme pressure properties better suited to Hypoid gear oils (diffs for example) rather than low wear rate engine oils. There is evidence that certain additives are beneficial short term for gear boxes and pumps - but long term in a petrol combustion engine? - I haven't seen any.

I just passed 100 k miles on my car . I have been running Mobil 1 since 60 k miles. I change the oil and filter every 3 k miles- Mobli 1 5w-50 supersyn, and $15 Toyota top quality filter (switched from Pure 1 filter). I have no leaks- NONE WHAT SO EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My garage floor is spotless, as are the brick pavers in my driveway. If your seals are in good shape, no oil will leak. If your seals are in rough shape, any oil will leak through.

NRG, As far as the comment you made to Peter Scott, well, that just proves the many other complaints and issues so many members on CL have had with you. Peter Scott is a credit to the SC400 community, and besides, I am sure he would much rather have an Aussie brew.

NRG, your lack of decency in this case is quite appalling.
