Over the years I have read a lot of performance stats on cars from typical car magazines, and I am completly convinced that they are totally full of ****. Not only do they lie about times, but their opinions are often rediculous.
After beating an RSX pretty bad, I went to look at some details. After downloading the data panel at Road and Track ( http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=1 ), I compared the specs. I know there are always differences between conditions and drivers, etc..but I noticed that it took 14.2 seconds to reach 90mph. Sorry thats not correct, but the funny part is that the quarter mile time they used was 15.2 at 92mph. AN ENTIRE SECOND TO GO FROM 90 TO 92?
In my opinion you can NEVER trust car magazines on their specs or opinons. I wouldn't doubt that billion dollar car companies like Honda don't "convince" these magazines that their cars are faster or better than they really are.
I wish there was a legit company that did honest, serious reviews on cars.

I think with a lot of cars when you reach those speeds it gets harder to hit certain speeds. I remember when i used to floor my gas down my block i would hit 45mph really quick but going from 45-60 used to take a long time.
Also, car magazines average their runs and adjust the results depending on where they test. They also make a point to emphasize that no 2 cars are created equal.
And for most ppl, i don't think they care if a car takes a full second to go from 90 to 92mph. What I usually look at is the long term reports. A lot of American made cars will go fast but when you look at the long-term reports you'll see the differences vs. Japanese makes.
just my opinion....

Jim, those car guys are very informative when testing out new cars. However, they can over rate cars such as the RSX Type S. Ditto with the '03 Stang Cobra. Car and Driver swears that it is a match for a Corvette Z06, but I have raced one with my Uncle' 2001 torch red Z06. Needless to say, that new Cobra never had a chance. Neither did a Stage 3 Roush. And this is the year the Corvette had 385hp, and not the updated 405hp version! Maybe those guys couldn't race, but i think Chevy makes a batter product when it comes to horsepower wars.

Sounds to me like a shift point around 90, with their #'s being an average of many.
Though it looks bad on paper, its probably not too far off. .5 sec shifts are not uncommon. Thats why putting a different gear ratio in our cars will slow you down in the qtr mile.
1 sec from 90-92 seems odd, but .7 sec does not.. They should have reveiwed their specs before printing to prevent such an issue.

Car mags are no different than other forms of mass communication. They provide a slant that favors the hand that feeds them. Politics, money, perks and free cars along with advertising keep the publisher alive. In a free society people can bend the truth only so far untill they get sued. Are you ready to draw that line? Think not . Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see.
