Parking lamp or headlight dash indicator aways on
We have a 92 SC400 and the yellow brake failure warning light the top left corner that looks like the car with the tail lights illuminated goes no and stays on whenever i hit the brakes . it goes off after i turn the car off then restart it.
the inner brake light bulbs are a single filament.
the outer bulbs for the running lights have 2 filaments.
there is some blue electrical tape over the factory black electrical tape.
1. Is the second filament on the running light bulb supposed to illuminate when the brakes are applied?
2. If the second filament in the running light bulb is supposed to come on with the brakes but it does not, will just this one bad brake light trigger the dash light even though both inner brake lights work?
3. Is the blue electrical tape on the rear light harness factory?
Thanks greatly for any help.

Since the warning indicator only comes on after you press the brake pedal, its definitely the brake lights. Both filaments must be working for the tail light ECU to be able to read the appropriate resistance.
Also, check your third brake light.

Thanks for the help. I fixed it.
It was the pos bulb sockets. Instead of soldering or riveting the ground wire to the sockets like they should have, they merely folded over the exposed end of the ground wire inside the housing then pressed the bulb holder in.
There was enough connection for the running lights to work but not enough to power the brake lights, so I simply soldered the ground wire to the housing and it works perfectly.
