they are SC needle's. i overextended them to balance them easier. smd's pack a lot of weight. i didnt have to, but it helps things on my end.

they dont overhang in RL, they go right to the edge. when the temp is perfectly strait out it gives a nice illusion when the tach goes past. they almost become one.

SInce you use the original needle housing when you rebuild these, I would guess that you just extended the illumination, not the length of the actual needles. In that sense, don't all needles extend the same distance?

Here's some cool stuff. First, i found a program that allows me to use my PDA as a backlit scale and took a pic of a full row of SMD's i built on a CM scale.

Then i completely stripped a factory needle down to the inner guts (very very carefully) and was able to get some great shots of the "maze" that makes up the needle. by looking at these pics below you can understand how the plastic seperates the maze under heat.

Most likely not, but i'd be interested in knowing what area you are studying right now, as i specialized in digital.

I assume your far past truth tables and conversion

Funny story (to me only). When i was going through digital i hated it. After i got out of it and went through solid state i wished i was back in digital. After i finally finished digital, i loved it the most.

I grabbed a couple cool photo's tonight. You'll notice that the true smd's have double the smd's in them when sitting beside the factory needle. when i finished this row i snapped a pic of it on. weird camera contrast made the base orange, not me

The speedometer needle on my 93 SC300 went out completely. Since I'm in the process of moving from Dallas to Florida, I didn't have much time to have my car off of the road for long. Anyway, I decided to order a new OEM meter plate from my supplier in Houston. Total cost with shipping and taxes was $506 which I'm sure is a lot more than I would of paid going through OLT. The installation went well with no major problems and it's nice to know how fast I'm going again. I was going to throw the old meter plate away but now I'm wondering if maybe someone out there could use the plate, tach needle which works fine, or even the speedometer needle for repair. This is for a system without TRAC. I don't have a lot of time to spend on this so if your in Dallas and can use this, come on over and pick it up. No charge. It just seems sinful to throw it away after so many of you have had problems.

well, an hour ago i decided it was too dark of a color and pulled it out. the blue looks good when it's lit in the clusters and center, but the smaller area's are just too dark. blue isn't a very bright color.
