Yeah, I thought I was going crazy when I replaced all bulbs with 24s and it wasn't bright until I realized I needed to plug the dimmer switch back in. I replaced all dull/dead/old bulbs from my instrument cluster and it's brrrright.

Also some trick... I couldn't find any stores that sell blue silicone bulb covers.. so I cheated. I had a laboratory grade blue marker and I just "painted" the bulbs with the blue marker. I worried that high heat from the bulbs would kill the bulbs or burn off the marker, but so far, so good,

What used to be really yellow backlight is now crisp white. I know, putting anything on the glass bulb may kill the bulb lifespan, but who cares. I'll just replace them again,

the marker will last a week or two and possibly longer. i jst cant see myself going in the cluster every month to redo it. especially with the bias resistors on the waterfall clusters.

i always have a few caps if you need them.

Yeah the dimmer switch is plugged in, I will check again but it actually works it does dim down with the switch. At night if you turn the dimmer switch all the way right until it clicks then it is bright but that is just the daytime intensity and that is not that bright.
Some of the packs of bulbs had been opened allready maybe I should just get new bulbs again and try it again ???

Default #24 bulbs with the blue caps

Guys, the #24 bulbs are nice and bright if left sleeveless. Their natural color is amber. My experience is that when I put the blue sleeves on, I cannot read the dash during the day. That is with the dimmer switch turned up all the way. The bulbs are great during the night, and match very well with my superb 4000k waterfalls from OLT. But the bulbs with the blue sleeves are unfortunately most difficult to see in daylight. Has anybody seen thinner sleeves out there?

If not, I will have to live with the amber color, not a bad color at all, but blue is better.

sure they are everywhere, that's the point of using the thick ones. the thin one's melt. I can see it perfectly, but i am used to looking at them, who knows.

are they the same size as the 24's maybe mine were switched and put back in the 24's box or something ? Another thing when I changed mine some of the 24's went in easy and some were a little bigger and needed a little extra push is this normal or should they all be EXACTLY the same size ?

I just scored a huge bulk buy of 200 led's. i got 100 blue and 100 white. I am going to go all out on my test cluster and see what i can come up with.

i'm going to use 20 pure white led's for lighting in my SC overhead light. i'm sure i'll have a few extra's left over

nice

I myself scored 50xblue, 50x white, 50x red LEDs and a bunch of different resistors (had to order from 3 different online vendors to get them). Brian, you woudln't happen to have purchased them on eBay, would ya? from this guy in Hong Kong? I paid 99 cents for the pack of 50 white ones paid like 16 bucks on shipping tho'.

gonna spend this weekend playing around with it..

I was able to put them blue leds on the stereo unit, and it lights up, but I think I funk'd up the solder points on the ribbon cable, which I need to fix

lol, dang. It'll be interesting to see how long those last under load.

mine come from the UK and are hand selected. They cost me $15 each. I have recently tried some from hong kong and they were dimmer than the others and blew after a short time. I figure i can use them for low voltage applications though. They wont be bright enough for the needles, and i'd be weary of the quality.

building needles is not easy, it's the kinda thing i only wanna do once.

Speaking of white, here's a pure white cluster i built tonight. You know your using brighter than 6k when the cluster is actually grey rather than white.
