Default Power Antenna woes.....

Ok fellas,

When I purchased my SC300 about 1½ months ago, the power antenna was stuck about half up/down. I got around to tearing into the truck today to check it out. As I've read, the majority of the problems are usually attributed to a bent mast, and/or broken cable. Unfortunately, it seems as though in addition to my mast being broken, the motor is dead also. So where is the cheapest source for the whole deal, mast and motor assembly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Post Used antenna assy

Try www.car-part.com. That is the Salvage yard business. I got a nice leather steering wheel off a site.
My Antenna is acting up but the problem is the large gear that draws/pushes the mast.

do you really need that antenna to pop up? aren't there antennas that stick themselves onto your back window. It isn't really noticable and it works pretty well?

I prefer not to have broken or inoperable things on my car. Too redneck for me.

Hi-psi
I came across an Antenna you might be interested in, and starting out at a very good price.
Check it out:

Question Power Antenna Mast on ebay

I saw a post on ebay where I could by the antenna mast for $19. It was just the very top part with the cable taht ran down through the middle. There were instructions on the post that seemed to indicate that 'rethreading' the mast was pretty straight forward. I'm wondering if anyone has actually done this before? The attached file almost looks like it's out of a service manual. No idea if it is or not.

I worked at a dealership, and they did that all the time, heck even the service writers (who practically never touch the cars) knew exactly how to do it... and they could do it pretty darn quick too!

Yeah, those steps look right. On some Lexus models I've heard that you can hit two buttons on the head-unit at the same time, and the mast will eject itself... maybe that was the SC430... I can't remember.

Thanks. My antenna started making that grinding sound today. It will sometimes still go up and down but other times it will stick. I think I'll try the mast that's on ebay and try and save myself $400. I guess if it doesn't work I'll have to look into tearing the motor housing apart to get at the larger gear.

wow..
everytime i work on my car, their's always a post about the stuff im working on..
Today i was messing around with my antanna. It's been broken for years.. it goes up fine.. but when i turn the radio off, it doesn want to go down, so i have to tap it, for it to catch on the gears, then it will go down.
I use to work perfectly.. i guess the plastic cable on the antanna mast broke so its shorten by 3 inches hah.

I ordered my new mast last night. Maybe I can fix this without breaking something else.
