Default Which one? 95 SC300 5-spd or 92 SC300 5-spd?

This is my first thread. Help me out guys.
When I was getting my legend coupe last year, I was in dilema. I didn't know wheather I should get a Legend or SC300. But snowy New England prefers FWD, so I went w/ legend. It's a fun fast car w/ class and all, but I came from RWD MR2, so I miss the fun of RWD. I've been wanting to have a SC300 5-speed ever since, and I think now is the time.

There are 2 SC 5-speeds near where I am at. Which one would you choose? Guide me w/ your knowledge.

95 SC300 5 speed black/tan w/ 80k miles $11,995 from a used car dealer - I don't know much about the car. I gota go look at it first.
or
92 SC300 5 speed pearl white/tan w/ 180k miles $6,995 from a used car dealer's sales man's personal car. He's had it since 92 and did all major tune up done recently. He said he replaced the computer. Do they go bad? 180k miles seems a lot, but you guys all talk about how reliable it is and all.

I am trying to get hold of them, so I can test drive them this weekend. I gotta get the VIN# and get carfax reports.

What do you guys think the fair/good value for these cars are? Thanks for your help in advance. Hope to be a Club Lexus member w/ a Lexus in my driveway.

Sorry about the long first post.

I have a 92 SC300 5-speed in MINT condition with 85,000 miles. Just detailed it this weekend. Waiting for my chrome Termist 17 wheels.

Great car and very reliable.

Hey, don't worry about snow too much in your SC. Don't get me wrong- I'm not saying it will hang with a big SUV, but if you have the right tires, you should be fine. Get yourself some good Michelin all season V rated tires, like I did. I made it through the Utah winter with the Olympics just fine in my SC400!

I will pick the 95 with 100K less miles. Lexus service recommends water pump/timing belt every 90,000 miles. 95 still have 10K miles to reach that service, however 92 with 180K is ready for its second timing belt and water pump service.

I would have no problems purchasing either one. If you can afford the 95 - go for it.

hmmm....
So people are leaning towards 95... Yeah I guess newer the better. I like black one better then pearl white. Both are good colors tho. How much is 90k service for 95 SC anyways?

I am gonna take a look at the 92 5-speed tonight. I've never driven a SC before, sO I am kinda excited to see how it will be. I will keep you guys posted.

So how much should I offer them? I was thinking $10k for 95, and $5k for 92. Are these numbers reasonable? Should I go lower or higher?

i vote for the 95 SC300...the price seems a bit much for the 92 considering the miles. i got my 93 for less than that and had about 50,000 less miles.

I agree with adidas1532, 7k for the 92 is a rip off with that many miles... I got my 92 SC300 (auto) for $7500 and it only had 80k miles... Now you could deal with him some and prob get it ALOT less, he just thinking because it is a "LEXUS" he can get more then what it is worth.... But also I think 12k is a little high for the 95 also, I think if you worked them you could get it for 10k or so.... If you go in there knowing how to deal and if they want to sell it then they will come down quite a bit on the price... But I would say go with the 95, LOL you get like 10 extra hp anyways... Because 95 -96 came with 235 ?? Instead of 225 I think... Also I would say you could get it for 10k and if you go in there and they don't want to go as low as you want them to, walk and let them sit on it... If they don't have other offers they will be calling you back in a day or two..... Do your homework....

Hope this helps you out..

close but no cigar.

all the SC300's came w/ a 225hp engine...however the '10' you are thinking of could be from the 220 torque the 98-00 models had (quoted) as opposed to the 210 the 97-92's had (quoted)....

Thanx for the info.
I did a lot of research but wanted to hear your opinions. I will try to bring down the price of 95 SC. It will be great if I can get it for $10k range. For 92 SC, do you guys think it's reasonable if I can bring the price down to $5k or so? He said he's willing to negotiate. I can use the extra cash.

Anyways, I didn't get to see the 92 SC today. The guy couldn't make it. Maybe tomorrow.

I didn't know 98+ had 10 more torque . Interesting info. Thanks.

I am gonna shoot for $10k for 95, $5k for 92. If they don't like it, I am gonna walk like asnatlas said. Thanks for the advice.

Not ALL 300 came with 225.. When you get into the newer 98+ 300s with the new VVTi they came with 250 hp stock.... But I thought 92 -?? had 225 and then for like 2 yrs they had a small increase of like 10 hp or so, maybe 96 & 97 ??? Then in 98+ they were up to 250...

hmm...well, forgive me then. i looked up the information on edmunds. they have all the 300s coming with 225hp.

when i posted this i did consider VVT-i and what it would do for power increases, but since they didn't reflect it with their numbers i didn't give it a second thought...
