Got rear-ended

Got rear-ended
Parked at a stoplight, then boom. I had just finished putting around 5 grand into the car. Damage was pretty light, but the Lexus bodyshop wants to replace the bumper and probably the shock absorbers. Estimate between 850 and 1500.
If I just exchanged info with the woman who hit me, can she stil file an insurance claim? Judging from the type of car she was driving, I don't think she is too economically well off, and I'm worried she might not be able to write me a check for $1500. She did have insurance, so at least that is good. I have her policy # etc.
Anyone know of a decent body shop in Chicago?
This sucks...watch out for morons running onto the back of your SC...

I dont know about your state, but in TN if you do not file a police report they will tell you to go.....um...
i mean , sorry, we can't do anything for you as you have no police record documentation.

Del. If damage is over $500 police must be called, also you might want to see if she will go with you to the station so that you just have a record. You dont have to have her charged with a moving violation ( so im told by my uncle).

In Texas, it's almost impossible to get a hold of anyone at the non-emergency police number. My truck was broken into and I tried three times, each time waiting about 20-30 minutes and just finally said, *uck it, my deductible will probably be more than the damage anyway. So if you're involved in a fender bender and no one's hurt, would that be consider an emergency? If not, good luck getting a hold of the cops in TX.

That's SO true. What's up with that? You're better off calling a Starbucks and asking it there are any cops there. Yeah I got rear ended and we didn't call the PO-PO, if your insurance company is good they will help you get your car fixed if the person who hit you isn't cooperating.

i got hit
i got hit in my sc400 last week. her fault not mine. i got estimates for repair of $14k, but geico (her ins company) just gave me an estimate for 2700. Does anybody have any suggestions to move them my way. And that doesn't even include the medical part. any advice?

You should always try to have a police report, even if you are not planning on reporting it to the insurance company. Just to cover your back in case someone decides to sue you.

Just my 2 cents

after i got rear-ended, my trunk never closed right. i kinda have to slam it a bit.
but i got a new pair of tail-lights cuz my old ones cracked on impact. if i knew they were going to replace it, i would have asked for the 3rd gen, so tell the body shop you want the newer tail-lights if they're gonna replace it or something.
