I REALIZE NOW....
for the past 2 months, i realized that i don't turn OFF my AC meaning, when i turn off the car, the AC is still on & will just turn OFF since the car is OFF. no wonder the change has been so drastic. i would think that the smell would gradually stink but this one was just BHAM, out of nowhere it just got really bad. i will NOW turn OFF my AC 5-10 mins before as suggested and that lysol thing. i gotta go to COSTCO first and buy the 3-pack

Yes, and no. I believe it was a factory option in prior years. All cars have the space for the filter. I have a '93 and opened up the empty chamber (1st time in 10 years) and found a bunch of crap in there. I would open this up, clean it out, and buy a filter and put it in there (search for the part number). Your main problem may very well be mildew, but you should not neglect investigating this important component. My AC did't smell bad, but not great either. After I put in a filter the air smells very clean with no hint of any other smells. This is a general maintanance item EVERY SC owner should look into.

The early SCs aren't capable of fitting the air filter. The green frame sticks out beyond the size of the chamber. I bought an air filter from Gordon at Carson and he confirmed that some of the early 92 models do not fit the filter. As you can see from the picture, the left rubber end marks the end of the chamber on that side. Because the panel sticks out beyond the size of the green grips, the second filter wouldn't fit.
Don't use too much lysol though. The smell from that is even worse.
To get to the air filter, pop off the foot cover under the glove compartment. It is held by 3 slips and 2 plastic grips. there should be 4 wingnuts holding the door to the air filter.

Here's a thread on how to get to that filter:

My '95 did not have the filter, but there was a place for it.

Lysol Disinfectant Spray comes in 7 great scents: Crisp Linen® Scent, Spring Waterfall™ Scent, Summer Breeze™ Scent, Country Scent®, Original Scent, Soft Powder™ Scent, and Pine Breeze™ Scent
I've been using crisp linen and I usually drive the car right afterwards which gives the interior time to vent out... but Lysol smells better than butt hairy sweaty armpit smell...

Thang,
I really do think it will fit and think you're doing it wrong. Your opening is the same size as mine and I used the same filter. You have to bend the thing at the joint in the middle and then once you slide the first one in you move it off to the side. You are obviously bio and not engineering at UCI - just messing with you man, it took me a long time to figure it out. Take a look at the last picture in the webpage refrenced below. It may confuse the hell out of you at first (as it did me) but it WILL work. Let us know how it goes.
