Question Stinky Air Out Of Ac

Anyone have a suggestion on why the air coming out of my AC is, without a doubt, unbelievably stinky? It's so bad like nasty sweat on a hairy guy in the gym.

Mine was like that when I hadn't used it for a while. It might have had mildew or something like that from the unused coolant and the air just got stagnant. How often do you use yours?

a little off topic but its kinda funny... most people spend time photoshopping their pictures so they lisence plate isn't able to be read...you proudly display yours sxys.

back to the topic...is it all the time, with or without AC or just sometimes that it happens?

about the stinky air like a hairy guy in the gym, it happens ALL the time now when i turn it on. BUT only for the first, say, 5 minutes or so and then it either goes away or my nose got saturated w/ the smell already that i can't tell the difference anymore? lol. i don't know but whether the AC button is pressed ON or OFF (just the blower) it still stanks!

Crank your heater to the max, max fan/heat level and drive around for maybe 10-15 minutes. It should "kill" the mildew and what not that thrives in the system. Oh yeah and keep the windows down and point the vents away from you. It'll get mighty hot in there.

This may sound hella random, but if you park outdoors, or in an open garage, a small animal could have crawled inside your engine bay. not to scare you or anything, but I've heard of rats nesting in cars and chewing through hoses etc. Something could have ACTUALLY "crawled up in there and died". Just a thought however. Go get it checked out.

ok here ya go

usually when people shut off the AC during summer months they shut it off when the turn the car off yes? the cold air condenses and leaves alot of moisture and this creates the mold/mildew aka gross *** smell if you turn off your AC and just let regular air flow in for 10 minutes before you shut off the car it should help the smell

other thing is spray a buncha Lysol into the air vent on the bottom of the windshield why using outside air and just toggle the vents and paths used and it'll give a fresher scent but honestly short of cleaning out the AC system I havent found a very very effect method

Its your air conditioning filter. Its located under your glovebox.

I don't know the details but possibly a search will turn something up.

I know it was widely discussed in the LSOC but I don't know if Jimi has kept the DB online.

I agree ... turn off the A/C 5-10 mins before the car!

carnal_c30 is right.

If you spray lysol into the vents in the outside of your car while you leave your AC on full blast, it'll get rid of the smell 90% of the times. Be sure to use at least one FULL can and maybe 2 if you have to. The AC filter is another option but when I cleaned out mine, I found that it was actually in good shape and it's something that does not make a good big difference if you change it once every two years. If you can't remember the las time you had the AC filter changed, then there's probably alot of dried leaves or other things caught at the filter level thats contributing to your mildew smell.
