Traction control

Traction control
This winter coming up will be my first winter with my sc400. I have always stayed away from RWD cars but in this case i couldn't resist!!!!! So I did my little study with the traction control in the rain and the results were pretty good. I pretty much jammed on the gas at a light W/O traction on and the results were pretty scary!!!! Fishtailing left and right like i was on ice. Then I tried it with the traction on and the results were pretty good. I felt that the car wanted to but the traction kicked in and kept me going straight. But how does it handle in the snow with and without traction? Please share your experiences...

Yeh, it works pretty well to avoid spinning on icy/snowy pavements. However, if you get stuck in snow, you probably will have to switch it off to get any kind of rocking/spinning motion going to get yourself out.
Last winter, I found a guy with a new GS300 stuck in a 7-11 parking lot. Why he took the car out on a day when everything was closed (except 7-11) I can't guess. He thought the tranny had gone out of his car because he couldn't make the wheels spin. After TRAC was switched off, and with a little rocking and a two person power boost, we had him back on the road in a hurry.
Good luck with it. You'll love it.

There are lots of discussions (use the search function) on CL about SC's in snow, what snow treads are best, and opinions do vary. Most say to stay off the roads because of really bad traction problems regardless of traction control or not. I have both summer and winter treads to play with. Best of all, I've also got my trusty 4-Runner for those special days when an SC or any RWD shouldn't be on the road.
