I thought it was 92.5 that started with the 134?? Could be wrong though but that is what I have read.

Default Nope

R134 started with the 1994 model year, which is exactly why I bought a '94.

Living in So Calif, we need air conditioning, and R12 is just getting crazy cost. But, I wanted a car with a air conditioning system that was designed for R134 from the very beginning.

Here in DE, I paid about $36 a can, with about 3.5 cans and 1 hour labor so about $160 total. Also make sure they put in a dye so that if there's a leak they can find it easier. P. S. That is R12 on a 93 sc400.

Default Does each can hold a pound of R12?

If so, that is amazingly inexpensive. R12 hasn't been made in the US for 5 years, so only available is very very old stock. With that supply and demand foundation, I typically see R12 going for $80-90 per lb.

Anyway, with the cost difference between R12 vs R134, the cost of an R12 charge around here in So Calif significantly offsets the cost to convert and charge with R134. The key thing in conversion is to have the expansion valve replaced with one specifically designed for R134.

You can either change from r12 to r134a, or do what I did. I got my 609 technician certification online from IMACA, so that I could go into any store and buy freon (r12). All I needed was one can of r12 to top off the system and get it ICE cold. Cost me $25 for the can of Freon, and $6 for the can tap. Ask the experts, and they will tell you that if at all possible, stick with r12 if you can!! I converted my 91 Eclipse from r12 to r134a, and it works, however it is not as cold as the r12 was. The main difference between systems designed for r134a from the beginning and r12 is that the r134a systems had a bigger condensor to compensate for the lower effectiveness of r134a.
Despite what others may tell you, it is NOT against FEDERAL law to top off a leaky r-12 system!! However, some states or localities may have rules against it. As for Freeze 12, all it is is a blend of 80% r134a and r142. The r142 helps make the refrigerant usable with the mineral oil the r12 systems use. I have heard some success stories with this product, though it will not be as good as r12. So the bottom line is, if you can afford it, use R12!!!!!!!!!!!

Default Larger condenser

I didn't know that. But, I'll add that as a footnote to why I got the '94.
