It means that it was the 3rd post in the thread, the third message in the line of messages, if you dont understand the CL Lingo. NRG posted it was a GT, sorry for the mistake in my post as well, as it is a 4.0 L Limited.

-P.S. They didnt even have the car show on Labor Day

oh yea, GT is 2.5L
you have the 4.0L opps my mistake
about your car..
how come it didnt go through U.S. Customs first? If you did, then you would be talking to the State DMV, doing the paper work, and inspections to get the car legalize. Im sure it will cost around 2-3k.
Although you can get that car register as a track car ONLY. easiest way

JSnake916: you're wrong.. the only reason it seems so hard when legalizing a skyline, because they never existed out in the U.S.A
For the soarer, they do exist, as the sc400

i see legal rhd japanese cars driving around california all the time..

oh yea, i found the picture on honda-tech. some guy posted pictures of him hanging out with his Supra friends..

It did go thru customs....that's why it has the visitors visa. As far as conforming it, no one seems to want to touch it. If it were only around 2-3k, there would be more Soarers here already. I think it would be at least twice as much, if you could find an approved shop willing to do the work. Most shops that do conforming specialize in a few specific models (ex. Skyline GTR) and are reluctant/ unwilling to do the paperwork and etc. for another model, especially if they can't make a good business case for it.

actually, its not the money wise, why people dont import more..
its just not worth the time..
it can take anywhere from 2 months to 1 year to get your car legal.

If I had the money and even having to wait up to 1 yr I would do it for a Skyline, that is my all time dream car, I love that damn thing

Not much of an update! but my last port of call was to try my local congressman.I was told to try them all! so i have emailed at local level right upto washington level.Only a few confirmed reciept of my E! and one person i managed to speak to by phone, they said they had experienced this before, whereby a merc was impounded at customs for some time! somehow they got the spec's! and all that was needed was a new exhaust system! somehow i dont think my scenario is so clear!!

Have checked the NHTSA site but cannot find any crash data for the sc400,only for the sc300!! could any of you guy's please check this also? just to make sure ive not slipped up!!

My main argument still exists: when a vehicle is a single import,as opposed to a large volume import i dont believe the general public at large are in danger! as an individual with the support of a letter to the DOT i should be able to take responsibility for my own actions in this matter! The NHTSA would not be expected to crash test a car that will never reach more than a handfull! i believe there is no provision for this or a single import! not to mention a car [soarer] that was never produced for europe, but only J.P and
the USA! being substantially similar, this is a loop hole this car falls into.
As a customer [toyota] if the specs are proprietory! therefore they should represent me in this matter to the NHTSA and deal with them directly, so as to attain the exact spec differences, give them in a letter form to an ICI to conform!
At least one way or another we will know the differences!!
Does anyone know the specs for the sc400?

Its funny in the UK the skyline's popularity has wained! i saw quite a few sat for month's on end on many importers garage forecourts! its the old story what u can't have!! quite boring inside, suppose i like my character/creature comforts.

I just did. Basically theres no "legal" way to make it driveable.
I think even if you want to make it a show or race car you have to put up
a bond and it can only be used for a yr and then has to get shipped back
Its a little
If it was a 1jz it would be alot more desireable..........
Still a cool car

What was the law regarding the Soarer then as opposed to now? On what date did the law change?

Default STILL WAITING FOR VALID REPLIES!!

Thanx mate! but have seen and scanned those pages already! but hey lets keep pluggin away
I have found out that the SC400 was never crash tested!
Only the SC300 was ever crash tested! i believe x2.
Sounds like a gentlemans agreement between toyota japan & the usa!
This took place on the 9.25.97 model yr 95, by a co called MGA research. test no[2718]
Not heard from my congressman yet.

As far as i am concerned soarerownz is wrong! the soarer was never on the eligibility list
PLEAZE PROVE ME WRONG!

Every time I get an email saying there's a new post on this thread, I get afraid that BAZ will announce the car has to return to the UK
