Default Is this a good deal on a 1995 SC 400?

Hi,

Thank you for reading my post. I am new to this forum, i just subscribed today. I wanted to get members opinions on the 1995 SC 400 I am about to purchase. It is located near Philly. The car is black with sunroof and every option including heated seats, 12 disc cd changer and Namickic (sp) Radio. The car is very clean and has 67,000 miles. I am purchasing it from an Infinity/Jag dealership that normally don’t sell used cars at all, however this was a trade in. The price is $12,900 and the salesman wont accept any less. The dealership will put all new tires and new brakes on the car for this price. I have put a $5000 deposit down, but I have up until Tuesday to change my mind. Is this a good deal? The dealership showed me paperwork that stated they paid $12,000 for the car on a trade-in for a 2003 Jaguar.

Finally, if I do get the car, should I get the Infinity/Jaguar extended warranty? It is $0 deductible. Covers almost everything except tires, brakes, carpet, paint, and audio system. 12 months/12000miles is $913 and 24 months/24k mikes is $1300. I want to purchase the SC 400 because it is reliable; I am thinking that because the SC 400 is so reliable I would not need any warranty. What are your thoughts?

Andy

Hey what’s up Andy,
I think 13,000, is a reasonable price they are asking for, and the mileage is lower than most 95 out there. I would say it is a good deal, but keep in mind an sc with 67xxx miles will soon need a new timing belt, water pump, belts and hoses, so you should be prepared to have a tune up done around 69-70K . I would also recommend you using the search button at the top left hand side of this page and look up the common problems with SC and try to see if the SC you are planning to buy has any of these defects / problems. But other than the tune up and the few problems most of us have on our sc these cars are works of art and you will easily run the car until 250,000+ as long as you do the regular maintenance, and I am sure that you will have no regrets if you purchase the car. Well I hope that any of this info actually helps you and if you have any other questions just ask, but not before you use the search button. , because you will get flamed on by most people if you just ask common questions that everyone else has.
Oh yea it wouldn’t hurt if you get the warranty because it tends to get a bit pricy for repairs on our cars.

Don't second guess it. you'll love the car, and the price is right. they have already done the average duties to get it ready for you and you are going to enjoy the quality and depepndability of the car for a long time.

Everything is square and correct. get it and enjoy.

Thumbs up

Jump on that deal! I recently bought my 95 sc400 for $12,800 with 73k mi on it from an individual. I can't believe a dealer (especially a Jag dealer) is selling that cheap. My local dealerships want 16,900 and up for some with over 110k mi on it. Hell, I would buy it if I could afford another one!

If the mileage is correct on this time, then you've got a great deal.

I've seen a few 92's with this amount of mileage going for over $12k in the past few months!

The most important thing to do is, not to jump and buy it just yet... find an independent mechanic that deals with imports... have him inspect the car up and down inside and out. This will cost you about $50 and will be the best money ever spent.... If he says "If I was in the market for a car right now, I would probably pick this" then you know its all set. Then buy it, and get the 2 year warranty. I bought my 92 with 49K miles, in perfect condition, it cost 14,9 with the 2 year extended warranty, which would not have been available if the car had only a thousand more miles!

In fact you can do what i did...when i got mine! Take it to a Lexus Dealership...get it lexus certified..110.00 well spent...dont trust anyone but a lexus mechanic when your buying it used...these people see them everyday.

Good points! What I meant to say was that as long as a good mechanic tells you it's in good condition, the price is a bargain.

Have you or someone you know who knows cars have a look at the SC before you purchase it. It sounds like a great deal, I would definitely go with the warranty also. Sure the car will last for as long as you want it to (i.e. treat it good, and it will treat you good), but it's always good to have a warranty to fall back on.

Take that deal and run with it before someone else does! Like me
