Default Fuel consumption of an SC400

Hi,

I'm thinking about to buy a SC400.
I've just spent about 3 hours to read through this forum to get to know this car.
But I still need some infos before I make my decision.

What is the average fuel consumption of a SC400?
Is there something I should know or watch out before purchasing the car?

Thanks in advance!

I seem to get about 18mpg on 87 octane. Of course, I have a relatively leaded foot...

Factory specs are 18/24 mpg for this car... I personally observed 21 mpg mixed driving... which isnt too bad. Trust me, the car is worth its expense in gas.

87?!! WHY!?!???

I get between 18-20 mpg mixed driving last I checked.
With the leadfoot, I get around 12-14 mpg.
Roadtrips I can get over 24 mpg.

Mileage can vary....i get any where from 449 to 490 miles to a full tank..depending on the mix of sidestreets and freeway, A/C...and ofcourse speeding....which is not bad for a V8...my supra and porsche friends are impressed....i started a thread on this a while ago..im sure there are more do another search for one it might help you make your decision clearer....good luck!

Tanks for your inputs.

I always wanted a coupe but they never sold the SC300/400 in my country.
My current drive is a fully loaded 2001 black onyx IS200 with tan interior.
I love my car but I want more power! Back in 2001 when I bought my car they IS300 wasn't available and the GS was a little bit too expensive for me....and the SC430 was out of my range.

Now after some research I get the chance to get my hands on a SC400. Thats why I started this thread.
I want to know a little bit more about the SC before getting rid of my beloved IS.

With air conditioning on 20 to 21, without 21 to 22. It mixed commuter driving, not in city traffic jams. No lead foot but often accelerating into traffic.

We shouldn't be using 87 Octane fuel,. should we? I always use 91. Also, does everyone use PWR or NORM setting??

87 octane is fine, though supposedly you'll lose ~5hp. All modern cars have knock sensors that adjust for fuel grade. I've never heard my engine knock, even on hard acceleration @ low RPM, so I'm very comfortable using 87. As the gazillion posts on the topic will tell, octane is simply a measure of resistance to detonation, not an indicator of power or anything else.

Oh, and PWR all the time. I wish there was a 3rd even sportier option. The tranny shifts WAY too slow and doesn't downshift nearly often enough for me. I found my self moving the tranny down to 1st gear by hand yesterday merging into traffic, cuz even with the kickdown switch it wouldn't change by itself.

I always drive pwr. off. I dotn ever have a need for it.. The only time it doesnt downshift to the level I really want is when it tends to shift out of first at about 10-15 mph, and you really need that burst.... If you kick it down it takes right off, otherwise your stuck in second all the way to 80 mph if you so choose. I recall this happened to me while i was racing an arrogant integra GSR driver... I pulled onto a road with him right behind me and it shifted into second at about 15 mph... i was like "Damn, hes got me for sure" Sure enough, i went from 20-70 all the way in second gear, which is much slower than maxing out first, and left him completely in the dust, even with the SC's mediocre acceleration due to the early gear changes.

Man, I don't know how you guys can possibly manage 24mpg. I drive mostly freeway miles and have never done better than 21mpg. That's with 92 octane and the power swith in the off position.
