Lexus driver Ergonomics
Hi,
I just purchased my first Lexus one week ago. It is a 1995 SC 400. Previously I drove a 1996 Olds Cutlass supreme. I like the ergonomics of the Olds door better and I was hoping to make a custom piece to duplicate the olds door in the SC 400. Allow me to elaborate. The olds has a wide door panel top where I rest my arm. I am not talking about the armrest in the middle of the door that one uses to open and close the door from the inside. I am talking about the area at the top of the door. This is the place you rest your arm when you hang it out the window. It is also the place where the door window disappears into the door when you roll down the window. On the Oldsmobile it is about 3" wide and very softly padded, on the Lexus it is 1" wide and not softly padded. I did not realize it but I like to drive with the driver’s side widow up and my left arm resting on this area of the door. This is not possible in the SC 400. Do you guys have any suggestion on how I can modify that area in the SC 400 so that it is wider and softer? I really don’t want to make any permanent modifications. I also don’t want something that looks jury-rigged. I am willing to take apart the door panel if need be. I doubt anyone has tried this before but i thought it doesn't hurt to ask.
Thanks for your time.

Great idea. The part you're referring to is known to crack and tear when pressure is applied. Mine is cracked on the Pass side, but not torn. Probably won't be cheap to have an upholstery shop do the work, however..
The window frame seems a little high to rest my arm on comfortably, but that may be b/c I ride w/ my seat all the way to the floor.
