Default Finally! Just bought my SC300!

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking around for a while, and asked a lot of questions that probably could have been answered using the search feature (I promise to use that feature from now exclusively).

In any case, I just purchased a 1992 Lexus SC300 5speed! It has 101k miles, no accidents, well-maintained, and is from the original owner. The color is red with gray leather interior. While book value may state one price, I purchased the car for $7500. The total cost of purchase is going to be greater since I have to fly out and pick it up. I get it this weekend. I think the price is a little more than what book value might dictate, but I think it's worth it since I plan to keep this car for a very long time and since it's in such great condition.

I'm glad there are resources like ClubLexus to help out us newbie owners who don't have a clue about their cars. Thanks everyone.

-Brian.

Hi everyone,

So far I love the car. It was bought with the intention of being a daily driver, but now I wish I had another car as a daily driver so I could leave the Lexus safe in the garage. Already, I've had someone scraped up against my drivers side door, and two dings and scratches on the passenger side door from careless (and inconsiderate) people opening their doors.

In any case, I have to get my car emission-tested. Would I have any trouble passing? How long do the factory catalytic converters typically last for?

Thanks,
-Brian.

It's a shame that people don't respect others property. A little lesson though, if you don't want door dings try to isolate your car when parking. It's worth the extra walk to me. If I have to park next to someone I try to find a well maintained vehicle, with the idea the owner is just as conscious about dings/dents as you are.

Post some pics and congrats on the purchase

Good ideas. Also, if you have to park near someone, try to be near a 4 door. Generally 4 door cars have shorter, lighter doors than 2 door cars (as we SC owners know). Also, avoid parking near minivans as they are usually carrying children/ soccer teams/ wild animals that have no concept of being careful.

Congrats on the purchase, I myself am in the process of finishing up purchasing a 92 5spd, for the same price as yours. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to drive it for 3 months, I'm overseas and the car is in tampa. Hope you enjoy yours, I know I'll enjoy mine

Interestingly enough, the price of 92 SCs in some books in mint condition are $21k now.
