I park on the street during the day. Having a plate helps me save my bumper from being scratched. When other ppl back into me( ) the first thing they hit is the plate..

Tried this, then took it off. I think after another ticket, I'm gonna put it back on.

I like the plates that we have here in Australia ($50 upgrade... well worth it and looks much better than the other huge things), neat and it's not too big...

I wouldn't mind having that on my front bumper.

I agree, my front plate has saved my bumper from scuffs at least once. I was returning to my car last summer, when I see that some lady in front of me (who had a good 4 feet of back-up room, mind you), was doing a clumsy job getting out of her space, and smacked her maroon Mazda into my front bumper. Horrified, I ran towards my car. Not a single scratch. I think the license plate (and the protruding screws) took the brunt of the impact.

I am glad it worked out for you, but it just as easily could have gone the other way, meaning the sharp edges of the license and mounting hardware could have damaged your bumper more than what the other guy's bumper would have done on its own. Many bumpers nowadays are just smooth plastic- I'd rather have that bump against my front end. Introducing a foreign object (license plate with protruding nuts and bolt heads) between the two is just asking for trouble.

But, like I said, I am glad it worked out for you. Maybe your plate's bolt heads made a lasting impression on the other driver, providing some motivation to be more careful in the future!
