looking to buy a sc400 any problems with them?
hello I'm going to look at a 92 sc400. I was wondering if there is anything that I should pay close attention to when I look at it. Like stuff that is known to break. I'm a mechaninc by trade but I would like some information on the car. What are some of your experiences and thoughts with with the 92 sc400. Thanks.

look to see if the front bumper has a black lip at the bottom. if it does, nice if not, its okay too, its purely for looks ( i think).
check to see if there is condensation in any of the headlights...

-check the antennae, they tend to get stuck
-climate control,
-if u get to drive it check the motor mounts (pop the hood and rev teh engine; watch for too much movement)
-also i had a problem with grounding; if my headlights were on and i turned on my turn signal, the lights would blink and radio would cut off
- check tilt/steering functions
- how the seats slide, does it move fluidly
- thats all i can think of

check the power steering pump to see that it is not leaking if it is get it replaced asap. It sits right on top of the alternator and will leak into it and then you will have to replace both like i did.

Thanks guys. I've read the link that was posted and i did search I guess I just didn't have the right phasing to find what I wanted. I've heard about the gauges before don't really know where though.

-check to see if the timing belt was changed
-clunking because the Lower control arms tend to go bad
-climate control (still functions but the screen goes black)
-check the drive shaft coupling(lube shop can from inspect this)
- transmission mounts/motor mounts (heavy vibration when idling)
- auto mirror ecu tends to need replacing
-on the gauge cluster the needles burn out and some backlighting bulbs as well
(lextech has you covered for this and can save you big $$$)
-Cd changer tends to crap out and has trouble reading real/ backup cd's
-Window regulator is another common issue
The car is a EXTREMELY reliable car, the motor is strong as hell. Just get the initial tune-up and make sure everything is somewhat up to par. I've had mine for almost 3 years with no major issues except the driveshaft coupling that i had replaced when i first bought it.
Oh and I don't think 92's came with automatic headlights... may want to double check if that is a concern for you.
