Default Trunk Leak .....Found it!!!

Well, As some of you know I bought my SC 400 back a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately the car had begun to leak in every place known to man. The passenger side of the trunk was the worse. I know a bunch of people have had there factory amps ruined and well, I found the problem. The first leak i found is the body joint right to the right side of the brake light assembly in the trunk. For some reason they did not quite go all the way to the top with the factory caulk and mine was leaking toward the top. Small leak, but now fixed. My big leak was a different culprit and one that has never been talked about. On the inside of the trunk lid were the rubber gasket is toward the rear of the car there is a joint were the rear panels meet. If you pull up the rubber you can see it about 3" up from the brake light. They must have caulked it there also and throught the years it has begun to crack. It is a small hairline crack on mine, but there. When i put the hose on it a had a steady drip coming straight down that would eventuall go through the carpet and leak right on top of the factory amp. Fortunately mine is no longer there. So, you guys might want to take a look at this spot on both sides of the car. I siliconed mine tonight and hopefully that will take car of the problem.

I have also begun working on the infamous leak on the carpet of the doors. Since I had replaced my factory speaker pod with a baffle for a 6 1/2 mine is not factory. But it does leak. So far I have replaced the baffle and found that the factory wiring harness that goes into the corner of the opening of the door was not sealed properly. There is some foam in there around the wires and mine was soaked. Water was coming in through there and the old rubber grommets that have become brittle on the door. You guys may laugh but I have used some plumbers putty on the baffle of the door (front and back) and sealed it with dynamat. The old seals the same. So far with ten minutes of steady garden hose, no leaks.
Hope this helps some one.

Shane
