I get around 80-90 emails a day regarding help with lighting and about 15 of them are about the shifter lighting .....which I have never even looked at. Why? because it's just two led's that are plug and play. Most people will just slam two led's in the twist lock spots and it will spot up badly, but that's about all anyone has ever really done with the shifter. There have been some more creative ways with every type of LED out there, but nothing really practical and easy enough for "Joe" to do it.

So after being ask a billion times to come up with something I took a minute to do so. For all who have asked, here it is..........

Much like back in the day when we all did the "True Ice Blue" thread I had to go back to the drawing board and figure out a way everyone could do the shifter reasonably easy. There's likely ten different ways to do it, but it had to be easy enough for everyone. Sticking with the two led's setup I found this to be the easiest...........

Drill into each end of the shifter and aim the LED's directly towards each other. Tap power at the bulb sockets since they are empty now. It produces a nice even light across the shifter.








This way works great and it's easy enough for anyone.

Wish I would have known so many people had asked, I could have posted pics of my old auto bezel with the LED's that I did over a year ago...oddly enough, its identical positioning on the led's. I used 30k mcd ultra whites though instead of blue.

But still nicely done, and very easy to do.

The truth..... everything gets re-asked every year anyway. We've stickied threads for years and right under the sticky the question will still get asked. We literally covered EVERYTHING in the Ice Blue thread, yet every 6 months same questions. This time I decided to do the thread and kill a few hundreds birds with one stone.

On the shifters it's all about refracting. When you get into refracting positioning is the key, but this is certainly the way to go. The shifter is too small internally for fancy work.

do you have a price for a cluster a/c controller and this all in blue and blue and white?

With gated shifter its a piece of cake Pop cover off, replace bulb with LED. The light output is a little more balanced than this picture. The P is not noticeably dimmer to the naked eye.

Near dusk it will be noticeable. That's the problem with uneven light. If the camera can pic it up and show a dramatic difference, it needs work. That spotting is the purpose for this method.
