unfortunatly I slid off the road last night...
and scratched the back of the car. The scratches aren't too deep, but I don't think that I will be able to buff them out. The part of the car that is scratched is in the middle of the very bottom part of the back bumper (in between the two bottom lights). It looks as if this part is separate from the actual bumper. Does anyone know what I am talking about and know if this piece can be replaced?
I just bought the car last week and am really bummed out that this happened. who would have known that a snow blizzard would hit this weekend? I am new to CL and would appreciate some feedback!
Thanks!

Congrats on the new SC. Sorry to hear about that. It sounds like you just need to replace the rear bumper. You can probably search ebay for a resonably priced rear bumper.

The bad news is the rear bumper cover is all one piece and wraps around to meet up with the rear quarter panels. New ones are unpainted.
The good news is covers are easily repaired by reputable shops and paint matching is also very good now a days when properly feathered and blended.
One suggestion, if you choose to go with the repair make sure the shop removes the lights, license plates, backup etc... overspray goes everywhere. It's a little extra work but well worth it.

Good thing you are ok. Could be much worse, right? I'll echo what Bob and others have said...you could pay $150 to re-shoot the rear bumper and just mask the lights, etc. $250-$300 for a really good job. Probably $500 from Lexus.
Sometimes you can luck out and find a great conditioned, same-color bumper on eBay with minor scratches that might be much cheaper. Just a thought. If your bumper is not cracked, I would just have it resprayed and done by a dealer or a high end body shop. Stay away from earl schieb or maaco or anyone that says they have to "blend" anything!!!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, glad you were not injured. Re-shooting the rear bumper is the least expensive way to go. I've had several of my cars done this way with no problems. Good luck and congrats on the purchase.

Welcome to the forum. Real sorry to hear about your off road experience. Glad to hear that you are alright. If it isn't too bad and noticeable I'd leave it, so nothing else happens to it. Use it like insurance. Hope that this is the worst that is ever going to happen to you or the car.

Sorry to hear about your accident but am glad that you are ok, so here is what I did to mine when I bought my baby the previous owner had hit the rear bumper with his garage door causing scrape marks in about the same spot you are talking about a friend of mine told me of this product http://www.drcolorchip.com/index.php that he had used on his car with great results so I purchased same and used it on my bumper and man I will tell you what you can not see nor feel where the scraps were it blended aw some to the paint on the car and the total cost was only $68.00 I have since used it on some minor abrasions also with fantastic results, I hope this will help you out a little.

Welcome to the forum but I'm sorry to hear about the accident.
You find several threads in this forum that discuss the poor handling capability of the SC430 on snow and ice. The general consensus is that when it snows or there is ice, garage that puppy. I've successfully driven it on snowy/icy, two-lane, crested black top road in stop and go traffic that gets up to 40 mph (70 mph on dry days). It was not a pretty sight. I wouldn't recommend it until you are extremely comfortable with the car and already have snow/ice driving skills and then I'd probably still recommend driving a different car until it clears up.

First time in the snow, about an inch of cover on the ground, I hit the brakes, and nothing, I slide through a four way stop. Turn towards a parking garage, and I go sideways. Left my car in underground parking with only 13 miles to get me home. If you don't have snow tires, 200 pounds of sand bags in the trunk, and snow mode engaged, leave her at home. I had a mustang GT in 1993 which also could not be driven in the snow. Bought a Subaru SVX and all solved. The right tool for the right job
