door soundproofing and speaker change
#62
So here's a running total of my speaker changes, and after about 4 months I couldn't be happier with the results.
- Changed to the 8ohm RF in the doors
- Siliconed the mids and tweeters on both doors (since I was replacing with the RF's- convenient timing)
- Replaced the rear subwoofer with a series-wired dual voice coil sub from ebay (see my earlier post for more info)
- Changed the rear speakers to RF 4" 4-ohm P142's
- Matted both doors, rear side panels, and back seat (with insulation/flashing from Home Depot)
I really love the sound coming from my car now! It's not too much of that shake the block, ghetto-blaster bass but a more full spectrum, deeper sound. I tend to listen to Hip-Hop and Club Hop when I drive so the bass is deep while the highs are very clean, although I'm no audiophile. I've had to set my fader towards the front slightly since the rear speakers are only 4ohm rather than 8ohm as factory suggests. Therefore, more power is coming through the rear speakers and thus they are louder then the OEM but I like it. I've also set the following units on the headunit: Bass:+5, Mids: -3, Treb: +2. I hope anyone that follows suit on this project is equally impressed with the difference it makes in the sound.
PS. i will say that i had some rattle from the driver door. After months of searching, I was able to narrow it down to the locking mechanism plate. I had to tighten the exterior star shaped screws that are located in the door jamb. Just a hint to anyone who experiences similar issues.
