I'd ditch the wheels. If you don't have the budget for nice aftermarket wheels, some of Lexus's other OEM wheels would be a big upgrade.

The first time I saw the SC430 was in Laguna Beach in 2002. I remember thinking that the wheels were COOL - those huge pie plates - and I think they still are very "Industrial Age Retro" I've never really understood why people dislike them so much. But then, I don't like Brussel Sprouts, so I guess it's just a matter of taste, right?

Not really my cup of tea, but excellent write up for a DIY. Man, I wish I was this disciplined and organized. Keep up the good work, looking foward to your next project.

Anyways. So attached are the before and after pictures.

Step 1: Plasti dip spray paint all your spokes. It is totally ok if you go all over the place. (You do not need to do a masking tape and you should not do more than 2 coats)
Step 2: Get a thin paint brush and goo gone.
Step 3: Pour the goo gone into its own cap and dip brush into it.
Step 4: Apply the goo gone with the brush to all the areas you don't want to have painted. So to all the overspray parts.
Step 5: Just redip and reapply. You will see all the excess paint just turns into water and drips off of the car onto the floor.
Step 6: Wipe off with a napkin, towel if needed.

What you should know before: Goo Gone will do absolutely nothing to your car's paint. Don't believe me, try it somewhere first. The reason why you don't want to do too many coats is because you won't be able to clean it off with Goo Gone so then you'll resort to just peeling off right? Well you will also peel off from the spokes itself. 2 coats is enough to cover everything.
I saw the first pic before reading all this and was like WHAT THE HECK DID HE DO?!?!?!

I like it.. wheels, grille, fogs, and limo tint all tie together well. Two thumbs up from me. Looks awesome on the white pearl.

Default Smart with the goo gone before plasti dip application!

smart idea with the goo gone before hand and your grills look great!!

I had my black m3 done matte white from an idiot who claimed to be a professional, it definately looked great but when it came time to taking it off I realized the plasti dip was in hard to reach areas.. finally with alot of effort, its all off!

If anyone was to do it again in areas with curves and angles (ex: M3 wheel), I would recommend using a spray gun for a thick thick layer which is easy to take off.. or use the DIP NOZZLE!!!
another good reason you want a thick layer: well I did the dish/lip part of my 20's on my SC from chrome to black with about 7 layers with spray can.. going speeds of 130 to 160.. it started to peel off at edges.. if you are going to do your wheel, make sure you tape the tire right up to the edge to the wheel because any plasti dip on the tire starts to peel in bits and pieces and looks like your tire is coming apart!

Default Selling your SC?

Alex,

I see you're trying to sell your SC.

Cars.com link

Looking through your description I'm curious about a couple things:

1) What the heck are "Custom sound adjustable mufflers ($200)?"

2) How do you like the 45 series tires vs. the stock 40 series, particularly as it relates to the slightly taller gearing and small difference in the speedometer reading vs. actual speed.

Thanks in advance.

Mufflers have a spot to open air flow = more sound. Or close air flow = less sound or no sound.

45 vs 40 ... looks better, tire fills in gap more. Ride is also softer. I would do it to all of my future cars. As for taller gearing, difference in speedo reading, etc.....+5 is nothing to do a difference where one can feel.
