Default Ride Height Sensor Failing

Recently I've noticed that my Automatic Headlight Leveling System has been acting strange. The headlights are constantly "scanning" up and down when driving and even when parked. other drivers are flashing me thinking I'm flashing them. I get the ALS error light on the dash rarely, but it always comes and goes, but the lights are always jumping up and down. I went to Lexus about a month ago and they said they didn't find any errors with the system. So they let me go with no charge. I finally made it in for a true diagnostic workup as the problem still continued, and after a $120 diagnostic fee I was told that my Front Left Ride Height Sensor was failing. The part alone is $800 and they wanted $900+ for the repair. They didn't give me the part number.
Does anyone have any experience with replacing this sensor? Or a part number? Maybe a DIY so I can replace it myself? Any help is really appreciated.

No words of advice from the pros out there? Even a part number perhaps?

Thanks so much, Jim. Does anyone know if this can be a DIY or do I truly need to take it to Lexus?

So just to update this thread. I bought a used Ride Height Sensor off a part out 2002 and replaced it myself. Really simple install and since it was off a 2002, I didn't have to worry about the initial arm length adjustment, etc. Have driven a few days now and no dash error light. I will say that I had a problem initially with some electrical components but I can't say that it was due to the installation of the ride height sensor. I lost the memory seat, mirror adjustment, trunk and gas cap release, passenger window control from driver side, and tilt steering control. To be honest, I feel that since I disconnected the battery for the install that it could have been the LuxLink reprogramming itself, since all those things are tied to the LuxLink. All in all, the ride height sensor is working fine as I can see the vertical headlight "dance" when I start the car and have the lights set to "Auto." As a sidenote, there's no dance if I move from headlight "off" to "auto," as the car self balances on start up whether the lights are on or not.

When you say you lost those functions, they came back I assume right? Did you have to do anything special to get them back? Just curious,

Hey Buddy, good job! You must feel great! Especially after the stealership quoted $1700 parts and labor..

thanks for all the respect guys I really appreciate it. No I really didn't do anything special I just left the car for about a day and I guess it sorted itself out. I'm counting myself lucky that it wasn't anything more serious but I cannot understand how those electrical gremlins can be caused by the ride height sensor. So I can only attribute the loss of those functions to the luxlink which controls many of those aspects at the same time. As I mentioned before I thought I felt some water on the passenger fuse box. I'm not sure if this is where the luxlink conects and therefore this is the root of my problem. But in any case I'm happy my car is running perfectly again.

I'm glad it worked out okay and kudos for taking on the task!

Shawn, be sure to get to the bottom of your moisture problem. That may be the root of all the craziness.
