I'm not entirely an expert but I do know that stock struts and shocks are meant for a certain ride height and are valved from the factory for that height. When you change their operating height with lowering springs your putting more pressure on the internals and will / should *blow* them up sooner.

I guess the question is - how much time should you get out of them on Espelirs before they fail on average? 1 month...4 months, 6 months, 1 year, or more?

The reason I ask is that I have the money to buy these right now.... but I just don't know if they will work on my stock struts for long enough to get the money for properly designed lowering application struts.

Sorry dont know then exact answer. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.

How many miles do you currently have on your stock SC shocks?

Get some coilovers or go cheap and cut your springs.

just had to chime in. these are great springs i saw them in person and can vouche. so your questons how long will stock shocks last with lowering springs. well that all depends on the current condition of the shocks. ive ran a setup like this on my ae86 for 2 years without my shocks blowing. btw when you hear that your shocks are blown it just means that dont bound and rebound like the are suppose to. you can still drive around on blown shocks just dont hit bumps so hard. for me performance over comfortability. i wanted slide my car around so i got some springs temporarily b4 i upgraded to coilovers.
