Yes, w55 and w58 are interchangable. I'm using the 96 sc300 w58 gears/sandwich plate inside of my IS300 w55 tailshaft and 2jzge bellhousing.
Just know the w55 is known to be weaker then the w58...Mine has a steel sandwich plate (vs aluminum as found in some w55) but you never know. That said its in perfect working order and would make a fine daily driver tranny or low boost tranny (10lbs).
