Was wondering if there was a guide / thread on replacing the quarter window weather strip or if anyone encountered this issue?
Currently when I roll up and down my front window, the weather strip on the quarter window sticks out causing significant wind noise. The weather strip is torn and the only way to reduce the noise is to open and close the door with the front window up.
I've tried using weather strip adhesive but that was unsuccessful, so I went ahead and ordered the strips.
This is for the (2002 SC430) passenger side and I ordered 67877-24010 & 67873-24011, hopefully those were the right parts...
Just wanted to follow up in case someone searches for this, and I now see why no one responded to this because it was a real PITA.
So in the picture above, the red circled area has two pieces 1) a metal piece (67877-24010) that is somehow attached to the quarter window and 2) a rubber weather stripping (67873-24011) that slides tightly into the top of the metal piece (#1) and slides down.
If your two pieces were not glued together, which they shouldn't, then I believe you should just be able to lower the quarter window slightly then pull out #2 and insert a new one. However, if it's glued, it's extremely difficult to use the above method. I was concerned breaking the window / window motor / etc if I applied too much force.
So ultimately I removed the quarter window, stripped / torn off #2, cleaned piece #1, inserted #2 to #1, and reinstalled the quarter window.
I used steps 1 - 12 in the attached file and then found this in another forum on tinting the quarter windows:
"Close the roof unroll the quarter Windows are all the way up. 3 10 mm nuts hold the window in. To get to all 3 u need to remove the 4" speaker because one of the holes to get to the bottom nut is directly behind it. After all 3 nuts are removed while holding the window lower the top till the window starts to lower. And remove the glass from the car. It looks really nice when finished. But it is a lot of work. If you try this method you need to have some tools at hand . Hint a 1/4" drive swivel is handy. And then just reverse the order to reinstall."
