Hello,
I have recently encountered a situation with the EVAP system. 1st thing I did was replace my gas cap, then my canister purge valve, and checked the fuel lines and did end up replacing one. Still after resetting the battery the codes will disappear temporarily then my check engine vsc on and vsc off lights will turn on. I am not sure what else to address because the code reader will still read a small leak at autozone. Not sure what else to do, please send any ideas you guys have! Thanks
Did you replace it with an OEM gas cap and not aftermarket? I would also check the vacuum hoses in this diagram that is located on the driver's side of the engine, its part of the evap system and any leak in the hoses will throw the codes:
Someone in the Tacoma forums mentioned that you can try spraying brake cleaner on the hose while the engine is running and see if RPM increases then there is a leak:
That is actually the exact one I ended up replacing when a hose was broken. I did get an aftermarket gas cap so that could potentially be the problem. If not any other suggestions? I will definitely double check the hoses tomorrow
I second checking hoses, if you find one, you will probably find more.
check both sides of the engine for cracked hoses, yellow circles, first pic
in the second pic, blue box, the right hose can come loose when you accelerate hard…it may also mean you have a bad motor mount…both very common.
Cracked hoses are VERY common on the SC430. Mostly because all the cars are over 13 years old. If you find one cracked hose, you will find another one next week. It is best to replace all the vacuum lines under your hood at the same time. You can by a roll of metric sized vacuum hose online, or you can buy the lines individually from the dealer.
