Default Trunk latch locks but can partially lift trunk

Hello,
the trunk latch locks, but I can raise the trunk lid a few inches. It stays locked but the swivel on the bottom latch mechanism seems to allow me to partially raise the trunk lid - but it stays locked. how to fix?

No sure how that is happening…can you post a pic or a video?

do you mean you can lift the trunk lid but then it stops you?

you might want to remove the trunk material so you can investigate…it’s an easy process.

the yellow circle is the trunk latch

I can film it to show much. So it locks but I can still lift the trunk lid about 2 inches (but still is locked). Does this with the roof up and down positions.
It almost seems that the bottom part of the latch mechanism (that swivels to apparently manage the movement of the roof up or down) is not itself being secured.
Thus no one can open the trunk completely (just lift it app. 2 inches). This worries me as the heavy trunk lid could pop up and down while driving.

I posted a pic above…you need to remove the trunk panels to see what is going on.

Here is a photo of the luggage compartment latch. It is bolted securely in place with the two nuts shown in the photo. There should be no up-and-down motion of the metal latch. I just popped off the trim piece to get a good look.

Here is a photo of the striker plate on the underneath side of the luggage compartment door. Again it is held in place securely, with no up-and-down motion. If it is loose, as indicated above you would need to remove or at least peel back the panel to get a good look.

From your description, I would assume one of these pieces is not held firmly in position. I wonder if it is the latch. You might be able to open the luggage compartment door a couple of inches because there is some slack in the control cable. Just a guess on my part.

My guess is it is this part in the red square. If you ever look at how your roof opens, the back end of your trunk pushes up, so the front part can open like a clam shell. My guess is that rod is broken, which allows you to open the trunk a couple of inches
