Default SC430: What's the farthest/longest you have driven without any breaks/stops?

Hey SC430 owners!

SC 430 capable of handling long drives without any stops? what's your longest trip so far?

Would you guys recommend long 7-8 hour drives? These 430's built for long drives?

Cheers!

The car can certainly handle driving 8hrs, As long as you are fine driving 8hrs.

Sort of a strange question..... I've driven 13 hrs w only stops for gas.... gas mileage on a long trip is typically 28 mpg.....
so long as your car is in good mechanical condition, the sky is the limit.....

Thanks for your response. mine is a 2006 with 131K miles on it. my only concern is the timing belt has never been replaced - running smooth so far! Just want to be sure if its a good idea to hit the road trip with the old timing belt or replace it with a new timing belt.

If you put off replacing the timing belt and it fails, you'll be very unhappy with yourself.... One has to balance any benefit of waiting before replacing it against the risk of engine destruction and being stuck somewhere...

Your TB and WP way overdue. Don't risk to ruin your engine. WP failure makes TB break inturn destroys the engine.

I just did SF to Vancouver BC in one go. Left San Fran at 11am, and ended up in vancouver at 3am. 16h, only stopping for fuel.

I love my SC430, best cruiser ever. The seats are sooooooo comfortable.

If you have concerns about the condition of the timing belt you can pull one of the cam caps and visually inspect the condition.

I drove my 2008 from San Jose to Irvine (CA), about 400 miles non-stop. I wasn't sure what would run out first...my fuel or my own bladder capacity! It took about 6 hrs, driving 80 mph most of the way. What wasn't an issue was comfort. I've yet to experience any butt or back pain while road tripping my SC!

I haven't done my TB yet either, with 65K on the odometer. I wouldn't bother inspecting the belt. I've yet to see a bad looking Toyota/Lexus belt in all my years of wrenching. As G-man says, the most likely point of failure is your water pump. If it ceases, you will break the belt unless you get the engine shut down immediately. But, at least you will get a warning with noise and high engine temperatures (hopefully with a high-temp warning light).

If you have changed your coolant according to schedule, your water pump is likely fine. The additives in the Toyota coolant keep the pump bearings lubricated. On the other hand, if you haven't kept up the cooling system maintenance with Toyota pink coolant, you should start thinking about scheduling the TB/WP job.

Yes, the trip computer said 29 mpg, but 28 is probably more accurate.

Was your coolant drained and filled with fresh pink Toyota coolant every 3-5 years?

LOML and I did Chattanooga to Northern Virginia in one day. We did stop for gas and food. Total about 8 hours 34 minutes according to Sergy and Brin.

No problems with comfort.

My longest trip in the 2006 SC 430 has been around 250 miles or around 3 and half hours. My MPG was about 28 if I remember right. Had no issues. Now as far as comfort that is another issue. While the SC is not bad it is a far cry from my normal road trip choice, which is my 2010 LS 460L. The LS is what comfort is all about.

No doubt Dennis...the LS is the comfort king! Since they're cut from the same cloth, maybe we call the SC430 the comfort prince?
