Well good to know they have gone to the chain. We haven't had any late model Japanese cars just older ones back in the day and a couple recent older models. Dodge Talon, Mitsubishi eclipse, RX 8, back in the day and recently a Honda S2000 and this SC 430 and they all had belts.

You will want the space saver spare from the RX8 when you wear out the run flats and want to get real tires.

So took it in yesterday for the TB/WP service, also had a flush and fill on the power steering fluid, it was looking pretty dark. Plugs are probably next, but I'll do that, they want $240 labor!!

Have you ran your serial number through Lexus.com? In the cars linage , which owner are you? I'm very curious about what appears to be a color mismatch with your ash tray cover and the console surround. It appears to be much darker. Just wondering.

Ask to get your old parts back from your TB/WP job. Then, please send us some close-up pics of your old belt. I'm curious to see what 19-year-old belt looks like. I only have 15 years on my belt, and I'm still figuring out how long to let it go. I do my own work, so I'm in no hurry to get dirty and sore doing this job. On the other hand, my five Toyota and Lexus vehicles have been so reliable, I'm getting rusty with my mechanic skills, and could use the practice!

To anyone else who does a TB job...Please ask to get your old belt back. Then post close-up pics of your belt along with the years/miles stats. I'll do the same when I get around to doing mine. My hypothesis is the belts rarely show signs of wear, so unless one is concerned with the failure of other components in the TB train, the job can be delayed indefinitely (to perhaps double the recommended interval?). That said, if the previous TB job was done by an unknown shop, sourcing unknown parts, all bets are off, and one may benefit by changing it before it is due again.

OK, sorry, I thought your SC was still in the shop.

i know you would’ve preferred older, “overdue” TBs, mine was just under 10 years and 86k miles. but it’s all i’ve got.
