Default Techstream cable for computer dummies!

Computer dummy, that's me! I can turn a tree into useable lumber but computers, I know almost nothing!!
So, I'm looking to buy a cable for my 2004 SC430. Not sure if I need the software with it or download the software from somewhere else or do they only work together as a system! I went on amazon (just cause returns are so easy) but there are a bunch on there, how do I choose? do I need the latest version or an earlier version due to the age of my car? please guide me.
EDIT TO ADD: Or get a cable with the disc and a disc reader to install Techstream? Would that be more foolproof or no?

For your SC, ver 10 software just be fine unless you plan to use TechStream on newer model vehicles. I would buy the cable only if it's available then download the software, save you some $. But you can buy the whole thing, cable and disk, if you don't mind the price. The only thing that I'm worry is you might run into the log in problem.

The easiest way for you is buy the whole set and ask Iolmaster to install it for you.

So just get the Techstream cable and download the software from somewhere else. And where might that somewhere else be?

iolmaster, are you interested in doing this?

Thanks guys for helping this computer dummy get working on this!!!!!

I have no other Toyota/Lexus vehicles just this one. Most (maybe all) of these cables are V16 and up, does that make any difference?

I not sure if the newer cables are compatible and may not be of any benefit. I would advise just buying a version 1.4.1 techstream cable. There are plenty on ebay and amazon.

I have version 13 of Techstream. The drivers for the cable that I have do say version 2.0 not 1.4. They may be the same but installing the drivers is very easy. I can put Techstream version 13 on the computer with no problem. This is what I have used for many years for my 06. When I plug in the cable, Device manager lists a Vehicle Interface Module, Driver version 9.0.1.0 dated 3/12/2010 by Denso. Anybody out there that can confirm that is the same driver for version 1.4 of the cable?? If so, I can put that on the computer also.

..
Could I just get a version 2.0 cable?
Well maybe not, just went to amazon and all I see are Version 1.4.1, or 1.4.8.
I see no version 2.0 on ebay either.
Hmmmm
Or I can order cable/software and have it sent to you. something like this maybe
Amazon Amazon

Or this
2023 MINI VCI TIS Techstream V18.00.008 TIS J2534 For Toyota Inspection Cable | eBay

And if you see something better point it out and I'll have it sent to you.

And I will pay you for your time of course.

Scott

I have both Ver 1.4 and 2.0 cables. For my 07, Ver 1.4 crashed on customization functions.

Iolmaster, did you try health check with Ver 13? My Ver 13 crashed.

Scott, I think you will be OK with Ver 1.4. Get it. Iolmaster can easily to help you.

Read this thread for more infos on TechStream.

When you run the vehicle health check, TechStream go thru all 25 ECUs. If any abnormal or problem occurred, you will get the DTC.
