Hi all, I'm thinking about getting the GROM VL2 to add Apple Car Play capability to my SC I'm tired of having the A/C vent clip with my Iphone and the small screen. I've been chatting with a tech at GROM and have identified a few things that bother me. I will have to install the aftermarket Bluetooth microphone as the system cant use the one in the car. The other is how large the damn box is (with modern microelectronics and chip size I have no idea why the form factor is so LARGE), likely it will take up all of the glove box unless I can fit the giant thing behind the radio or Nav screen.

I was wondering if any of the group have done this install, and how you placed and routed the microphone and the giant box. and if you thought it was worth the cost and effort.

I did not route the microphone, but did find there was plenty of room in the center console for the box. (under the wood cover)

 

Thanks Daryl, without the microphone can you still use hands free for calls? Also I'm not clear on what you mean by "under the wood cover" in the center console. Do you mean the space behind the radio unit?

it is been about 5 years since I installed mine. I think I put the box under the center console where the gear shifter is.

If you watch the install video, you will notice it is the long wood thing that you take off to do the install.
