Default Replaced Rear Main Seal + Seal Plate O-ring Seal

The rear main seal was leaking between engine and transmission. It was a pretty big job for the home garage and took a several days to complete. Here are some pictures I took during the work.

Removed the exhaust & drive shaft (see left of exhaust in picture):

Removed the transmission the Harbor Freight Transmission Jack was required:

flex-plate before removal:

rear main seal and seal plate before removal:

Seal plate removed:

Close up of the O-ring seal, looks to be the main source of the leak:

Seal plate and main seal installed:

Flex-plate installed with bolts torqued:

all but the covers re-installed:

I'm happy it is done.

Wow what a project, great job doing it and documenting it. So how did you get the car high enough to pull that trans?

By using four 3 ton jack stands at the highest settings. I raised the front of the car first and placed it on two stands, then I raised the rear of the car and placed it on two more stands. Then I maid sure the car was completely stable before starting the work.
