Default Weird question... Why?

So, I am wondering why everyone bought and or has an SC430. Weird question, right? I see threads on mods, or builds, I'm not sure but I think some have their SC40 to race maybe? Seems like way better cars out there suited to do that, a Honda S2000 comes to mind for that, lighter, more nimble, better handling, stuff like that. I know because I had one.
So, for me the reasoning we bought one was we wanted a nice little weekend car and above that we wanted a nice quiet luxury cruiser for 2. Our daughters live out in Texas and we enjoy the drive out there. This car will handle that well I do believe, we have not tried it as of yet but look forward to doing so. The 500 mile trip home from buying it showed me it would do the job fine. The car is comfortable and quiet with the top up or down, this hard top convertible is great with the top up! We had bought that S2000 for this same purpose but within a year realized it was definitely NOT the correct car for the job. Very fun but very coarse, loud top up or down and not a car we wanted for long distance trips.
Thats my reasoning, what's yours?

Ditto: Style, comfort, reliability. I owned a new one back on 2002. Sold it in 2005. Always regretted getting rid of it. I loved it then and I love driving it now. I have a 2007 with 85,000 miles. It is in great shape. I drive it year round in Chicago with snow tires in the winter. I drove it 25,000 the first year I got it in 2020. Now, I only drive 5,000 miles a year. I love it for quick trips around town and I love it for long rides up north.

Nice, how does it do in those Chicago winters? I grew up there out in the suburbs. I'm pretty sure it would be like driving a Mustang, short wheelbase, V8 , rear wheel drive. Drove a lot of mustangs over the years! Great for doing donuts!

I wanted to try a convertible, for a summer car. I was leaning to hard tops, or manual soft tops so I didn't have to deal with top problems. There wasn't much to choose from. I thought about clk, slk, and this, Miata have the same noise issue, and I drive quite a bit on the highway so I wanted a hard top gt car. I drove my friends hard top e93 before but it had quite a bit of rattles on bumps. I looked at a few slk55s and I wanted one bad but then they were quite a bit more money and only 2 seats. So SC seemed like the best choice, something I can have without needing too much maintenance and won't lose too much money when I sell.

Wow, looks exactly like what we went through buying this car, looked at all those same cars on our way!

I would love an AMG Clk, Sl or Cl, but the suspension + hydraulic top is just a bit too $$$ for me. Thought about boxster too but no hard top, Porsche tax and IMS issues. Thought about a 350z 370z roadster but those are pretty rare and similar price to SC. Also g37 convertible but those are even more rare. Dare I say it, the IS convertible is more money for some reason and also uglier than the SC.

With winter tires it is no sweat. Rides through the snow like an suv. Now the teeth jarring from the potholes is a different matter. Love my SC year round.

Through the years I've been through multiple Corvettes , Street Rods, Muscle cars, british sport cars. I always wanted them to be comfortable and dependable. Never really worked out that way. I got so tired of driving having one eye glued to the temp gauge. Feeling every bump in the road. We wanted a second car that was fun , different and that we could actually depend on as a second car if need be. Add the class a Lexus provides the SC was a no brainer.

way back when I was looking for a convertible in 2008, considered an older 1999 MB SL500 and wife vetoed it for riding too harsh. So we moved on to the Sc430 and I could afford a younger car and ended up with this 2005 SC that I have owned since early 2008. The SC addressed the supposed harsh ride my wife complained of in the SL500 and it came with a likely lower maintenance bill over time so the rest was history. Never thought to track the car ( or any of my cars for that matter ). They are all just driven for pleasure.

Actually I'm thinking about a z6 Corvette, I've never had a GM car though. Apparently they get crazy good mpg for a massive LS Mt sports car. And the LS is relatively reliable? Just not sure how bad the interior is coming from Lexus.

I've owned a couple of GM's over the years, but would never buy another. Their reliability is not great!

This is why I "minus-sized" my wheels to 17".

No, this is not a weird question. I bought mine because I wanted a reliable, comfortable GT, with a V8 and a convertible hard top. No other vehicle fit this bill.
