Carlinkit Wireless Apple Carplay Firmware Fixed Audio Dropouts
Ever since changing from iPhone X to an iPhone 14 Pro Max, my wireless Apple carplay has suffered audio dropouts. This could be partially alleviated by having the Carlinkit box within 1 foot of my iPhone, but even with such a short distance between the devices, I kept having audio dropouts that sounded like buffering for fractions of a second. This would happen about once every 10-15 minutes - enough to be really annoying. I thought this was due to Apple's IOS or hardware. After several iPhone IOS updates, the problem persisted. Also, that same phone worked perfectly with the wireless Carplay in a KIA.
CarlinKit adapter for Android (after market head unit) is this one
Contacted the seller on Amazon(Car Tech) and they gave me instructions to update the Carlinkit box firmware. BTW, the APK for the device on Android did not show a firmware being available. The update is done by prepping a USB stick with the new firmware. You then plug USB stick into the box, and then plug box into a USB power supply. Don't do this by plugging into your Android Car head unit.
Here are their instructions in case anyone else is having the audio dropout issue. I have made some edits to make process more clear than the original Chinglish. The new firmware has worked wonders. No more dropouts and I no longer have to place phone right next to CarlinKit box.
First adjust the following options in the Android head unit.
Apk Settings - Advanced settings - Choose 'software decoding' for decoding method, or change the rendering mode to 'other' If the connection is still disconnected, try adding another power supply line(2 to 1 cable).
If that does not help, unplug the Carlink box and do the firmware upgrade
Update steps:
Download the upgrade file from https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...uh2nFdi7-WZjmT
(I got the zip version and unzipped so I would have a checksummed file)
Prepare a USB flash stick.
1. Format the USB stick to FAT32 (Must be FAT32, not FAT or other formats) EDIT. Disk Utility under MacOS select FAT with Master Boot Record as partition type when prepping the USB stick.
2. Put the “A15W_Update” upgrade file into the USB flash drive.
3. Insert the USB stick into the USB port of our product, not the car original USB port.
4. Then connect the product into a USB power supply to upgrade.
EDIT: LED lights on box will flash red/blue alternately indicates that the update is in progress. Do not unplug and plug the box until upgrade is completed. When LED is solid red, the update has completed and you can unplug the box from USB power supply. Unplug USB stick. Reinstall in car.
