Default Parasitic Drain - Common Problems

2004 130k Impeccable service history. No issues , no codes. Everything works great. Battery dies after a week or two of sitting around. Trunk light does go out when you close it as does the glove box. Charges up and runs fine afterwards. Any common areas to suspect?

I believe I read that the 2 biggest draws are the factory stereo and leaving the headlights on auto when the car sits. I replaced the battery when I purchased my car with an interstate AGM battery, it came with a Pioneer aftermarket stereo and I always turn the lights to off before turning off the car. I’ve had the car almost 2 years now, leave it sitting anywhere from a couple days to over a week without driving it and so far, touch wood, I have not had any issues. For reference I have a 2005 with 160k miles.

I also have a AGM battery and after 14 days it needs a jump. I keep a battery trickle charger hooked up and top off every day..

You need a jump after 14 days even with a trickle charger on?

No if I don't leave the trickle charger on then after about 14 days I will need to jump. Ever since I figured out the SC has a parasitic draining issue I have keep the trickle charger hooked up. I may go weeks without driving the SC.

just curious, do you have an owners manual?
if not, you can order a copy or download a digital copy from Lexus.com

Ahh, so its just automatic, it was made to sound here like you had to do something to arm it, he must just unlock a door to dis-arm it. When my car is parked in the garage the doors are not locked and I have yet to have the battery go dead, knock on wood! (I should never have said that)
And yes, I have the owner's manual and a full set of shop manuals as well.
Oh, and thanks

Yes, it is automatic when you lock the doors with your FOB

But if you exit your car and use the physical latch to lock your door, your alarm also does not arm.

I just wish when I locked it with a FOB the horn would honk, all I get is this little weak beep that you can barely hear

What "physical latch?" The key in the outside of the door? The button on the armrest? The flip switch above the inside door handle?

I think he is talking about the flip switch above the door handle. Nothing requiring electric so the car doesn't know its locked.

Got it. Thanks. Wasn't sure the door would stay locked when closed after locking with that switch.
