Default New owner with key questions

Hello,
Just bought a really nice SC430. Sweet car. The only issue is keys. Only came with one and it's not original. The remote does not work but it DOES manually open and start the car. Basically, it seems to be a valet key with useless buttons. Can I use this to start obtaining spare keys or do I have to go to the dealer?
Edit: My key does lock/unlock the glove box and storage under the arm rest. I assume this means it is programmed as a master?

yes you can but there is a limit of four keys and you may need TechStream to remove the “lost keys”

The fob is a separate programming procedure from the key

Here are some steps you can follow to attempt programming without the Toyota TechStream software

Thanks. I'm checking that out. For a while I was afraid afraid that I was looking at pretty large dealer charges.

There are plenty of threads on the key/fob programming.

Keep asking questions and searching for answers.

So I went through the same thing when I got my car other than I had the master key, I went to 1010 keys on ebay, they can cut you a key from a picture and then there is a series of things you can do with your key and car to program the remote, apparently it works for most people, for me it did not! It even unprogrammed my master so I ended up going to Toyota and they fixed it all making the master and the new key/remote all work fine, only a measly $175! Give it a try it might work for you without going to the dealer.
