I bought my 2003 car in 2022 after selling my EV for 6k over what I paid in 2020. At that time, kbb private was about 17k. I paid 17,500 from the dealer which was the lowest I could find. 64k miles. Kbb private is now 15,500 with 71 k miles. How much of the 2k depreciation is Covid excess, 2 years of use, 7k miles added since 2022. Do you guys think my car is holding its value . did I overpay because of Covid? is the depreciation normal for a 20 year old car. What do u guys think.

This is going to hurt, sorry.
You over paid at the dealer. That is to be expected. I bought the same year and miles in perfect condition private party for 2K less. So that explains the 2K. You overpaid because a dealership has to make money or it doesn't survive.
I think these cars have 2 different values. Perfect condition Normal to low miles I think the car will stay at the 10k mark. Not perfect, high miles will get you 5k forsure, parts alone.

at that time , I couldn’t find any from private party. I was hoping to avoid sales tax that way. I hate paying sales tax. When did you buy yours.
I'm on my 3rd summer coming up with the car. I'm in Washington State and we pay sales tax on everything. My boat really hurt. Bought it in Oregon, if I lived there would have paid no tax. Tow it back to Washington and pay 5K in tax. It's a scam.
I found my car here in Washington got lucky. But I was looking for over 8 months. I did find a few in Arizona back then. I was looking for "Perfect" and that did limit some of the market.
KBB, NADA, etc. are all guesstimates. Pretty sure if you put your car on the market today you'd get more than $15,500. But really, you don't want to sell it, you want to drive it...

oh no, I love the car. I was just bored and checking values compared to 2022. Basically it’s depreciated 100 a month. That’s better than any lease. I was just curious if it’s normal depreciation for 2 years when the car is 20 years old already
Casual observations seem to indicate that the early models are losing their value a bit whilst the later models (2006+) are escalating in value.
I paid $28k for a 2007 with 45k miles 2 1/2 years ago. If it still had 45k on it I could prolly get my money back.
But I bought it to drive it. We've put 25k on it and drive it as much as possible.
Have fun
I do agree that the 2002 are plentiful (by far the most production) but except for Pebble Beach and Neiman Marcus variants, the values are slipping a bit. The 2006 refresh added rarity and desirability. I have a 2008 bought with just under 34K miles bought in April of 2022 for $29K plus dealer fees, tax, reg. etc.. Now has 38,100 mi. It's been out of the garage three times this year, that will change as soon as we get a warm and sunny weekend here in NJ!
Bought a 07 PB 1 owner clear car fax , dealer maintained with all records and recent T/B + W/P etc for $42,000 with 35,000
Probably overpaid by $5K but demand for clean low mileage SC will always be there as the years goes by and the nice SC becomes even more rare.
The 07 PB Interior is what makes the 07 really pop
Hey doobs what parts for example are you n oh t able to find? I haven’t seen anything difficult to find. The exclusive seats and special badges for the PB maybe but for the most parts, rubber gaskets, engine , tranny etc all accessible

Last year I was looking to replace the console insert as mine was scratched up.
I had ordered it from megazip, but they emailed me that it was no longer available.
I called a bunch of other sources and found one, but paid dearly for it. The vendor obviously knew there weren't meant to be had.
I think if you are looking for the “one offs”, then yea it will be harder to source.
The PB accessories are almost impossible to find but then they are very rare.
but if you are looking for the Engine, tranny, gaskets, ABS acculator, TPMS,
light assembly brakes suspension parts etc,, think it will be no problem for many more years
I'm afraid it is much more difficult to keep any modern car as a classic, vs older cars (pre-70's). Older classic cars are easier to keep on the road, looking good, and to make show-worthy. Newer cars with their proliferation of plastic parts and complex electronics will have a much more difficult time aging to the point of becoming classic or collectible. Knowing this, I have no illusions of having my 08 SC every appreciate in value. I do feel, however, that my depreciation has been low, but, that's been true for all my Toyota and Lexus vehicles since I started buying them in the 80's.
