Hi everyone. This was a police impound vehicle. I cleaned it up inside and out and it doesn't look to bad but by no means is she perfect. She's been repainted and has aftermarket wheels and exhaust. I'm no mechanic but I do have a scanner and a few tools. I'm just trying to figure out what I can fix. We have a really good Toyota mechanic locally so what I can't figure out he probably can. I would like to post a video on YouTube of the issues I have but Club Lexus has a 14 day waiting period to post url's for new members. If a picture is worth a thousand words then a video is worth a million.
So at this point I'm going to ask about one of the many issues and that's with the climate controls and for that matter the rest on the controls on the unit. In the picture below you can see the clock display is operating. None of the other buttons have any response when pushed except the hazard button which does operate properly. I have downloaded the fuse boxes diagrams from Club Lexus for the 2002 SC430. That's the first thing I'm going to check when the sun comes up here. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Hello Chris. It's probably just your controller. That does not specifically mean it's bad though. Our cars are so old now that eBay is still a primary source for cheap, reliable OEM parts. It's very possible/probable that someone had the unit out and forgot to plug something back in. Taking it all apart is seriously easy. I think a 10mm socket and some plastic panel tools to help you pry a couple of panels away is about all you should need. But this is the place to get the answers you need. Good luck and welcome.
Thanks for the welcome. I didn't find any fuse issues and I have removed the controller from the car. I did clean the three connectors along with the three plugs. Reinstalled and it was still not working.
I have a fairly well equipped electronics test bench( I work on vintage audio equipment). Does anyone know if there's anyway to test/repair the controller out of the car and on the bench? Is it even worth attempting a repair on the controller? On top of that I don't know if the controller is really the problem. How would I determine that it's the controller and not somewhere else.
If you are going to need parts the place to get them from most of the time is the following link. You will need techstream to pull codes I believe. Again Welcome
I can tell you that one of the first things I did to my 02 when I bought it. I replaced every single vacuum, water or emissions hose in the engine bay. The emmision hoses especially get very brittle and then you get leaks. Not good.
