Default Anyone change their belt tensioner?

I had a friend ask me how to change the tensioner on their SC430. They are having problems getting the tensioner out

Anyone ever do it before?

This is a message they sent me:

I'm changing the tensioner and idler pulley, but I didn't realize how much work this was gonna be. If I'm not mistaken the only thing holding the old tensioner assembly in now is either the alternator or the power steering pump pulley.

i tried to rent a pulley removal tool and the one they gave me doesn't clamp on to my car.

I've taken off the belt, the timing chain cover both parts, and part of the whatever bolts are holding the alternator in place.

all the bolts holding the old tensioner in place are off, but to slide the old one off and replace it with the new one... something has to slide off in order to switch the pieces.

can you please tell me how the heck to finish his job.

I've watched videos on here on how the power steering pump pulley comes off so easily.

The pulley remover don't even grasp where they are supposed to on the pulley....

That's the temperature sender/sensor (More Information for AISIN THSAZ8001 (rockauto.com))

What do you mean you broke the connector? it looks fine to me. If you mean you "broke" the tab, I wouldn't worry about it. Just zip tie it, and/or the rubber will hold the connector in.

Also, I've just removed the power steering pump pully from the pump with an impact in the past. To avoid having to remove the belt tensioner. Really that should be replaced at/with the timing belt/water pump. I've also had a non-OEM serpentine belt squeak so now I only get OEM. For the longest time I thought it was the idler pully making the noise, but nope, the aftermarket belt was just rubbing somewhere.

the inner plugs where the two prongs connect broke.it took me 2 weeks to do this job and im still not done cause of the broken sensor and I lost one of the bots that holds the power steering pump to the block. so i went to the dealership and ordered that i showed them the same pics i showed you guys and they were like we dont know what that is, btw they work for the parts dept.... well see if tomorrow they ordered the right bolt or not....

Did you see this post by Dan the Man? Click on the link in Blue and you can probably get the part number from the rockauto listing. Or just order the part from Rockauto

so I buttoned everything back up today and I couldn't get the new belt around the all the pulleys, every time I would get close the new belt tensioner would clicks and lets go of the tension I mean I'm about 1/4- 1/2 inch off, is there any way to stretch the belt or any tricks to getting this belt back on....

Uhh belts don't stretch by design. You need to fully compress the belt tensioner. I usually use a 24-16 inch breaker bar and you have to get the exact right position to have enough throw to fully compress it. Fun trick if you are using a 6-point socket and can't get that "right" position, you can take the 6-point of, rotate it 1/4 turn on your breaker bar end, and try again. Rotating it 1/4 turn (90 deg) set it up to act like a 12-point socket. So now you should be able to get the "right" position on the tensioner.
