A/C issues
My 2004 sc430 just started blowing hot air. I took it to a Toyota dealership to have the A/C checked. They said the compressor was bad among other things and it would cos tabout 2700$ to fix. Has anyone else experienced this ??? It has 191k miles on it.

Did they say if the Freon was low...should be if the compressor was shot? My 2004 LS quit working (Hot air) and I took it to the Toyota dealer. They removed all the freon and cleaned it and put it back and the AC has worked ever since. $250

Was there a code they read that led them to that diagnosis? Was the compressor engaged at all? Did it sound rough when it worked? The system has pressure transducers in it so when your freon is low your car should have a code stating that the low, or high pressure is incorrect. Then you'd just need to drain the freon (using an AC machine) see how much charge was in, then fill it up to the recommended amount.
I've also had to replace the pressure transducers before when someone uses those over the counter AC fill-up things. Please don't use these.
Also, I've lost all faith in Toyota dealerships for correct diagnosis. Bite the bullet and take it to a Lexus dealer, or better yet, find a local shop that explicitly states they work on Lexus/Toyotas and have a certified master tech available to look at your car. These were the most expensive Lexus's in 2004, so much going on. Most of the young techs in Toyota land have never worked on them when they were new.

Are you interested in fixing it yourself, or do you just want to make sure you are not being ripped off?
Did you get the car back, or is it still at the dealer? If you have access to the car, you can run the AC self diagnostic
See if this works, otherwise do a google search for sc430 AC Self check
