It is not the switch. If your roof is malfunction, your switch is dark. I'm concerned that you have open/short wires somewhere. Take off your glove box ( where the rat was net) and inspect the wires within.

Unhappy UPDATE: ROOF working but more different issues ? ? ?

SC430 p/u from dealer yesterday.

Son noticed the RED LIGHT was ON for open/close roof . . . so he pushed OPEN and wellah - she opened! WHY did the button go from no light, no juice to ON?

However during the entire drive home he continually heard a recurring ding sound (like door was open but it was not) when driving over 5 mph, no sound when driving slower or at a stop.

Parked car in garage, left top OPEN and instead of a OPEN/CLOSE button/switch that was 100% dead (no light) . . . it's a SOLID RED LIGHT that stays on once car is started.

Today my son disconnected the battery for an hour to clear everything . . . then reconnected.

Pushed & held solid red light OPEN/CLOSE switch to CLOSE . . . everything seemed to work perfectly until roof tried to lock and then it stopped - unlocked. When the close button is held to close again & again - each time the arm that is circled makes a noise (see photo) like a small motor running - but quiet and the arm (unsure of correct name) squats down like it wants to finish helping push the roof into place to lock but instead it then comes back up (movement maybe an 1/8-1/4 inch max). Light stays red, no chime. Trunk will not fully close (see photo).

Here we go again!!! What to do NOW? Manually close and take to another mechanic for a second quote . . . kinda like going for a 2nd opinion from a doctor?

FYI . . . one recommendation from a FB post I made for a MECHANIC in the Jacksonville, FL is JAPENSE AUTO SPECIALIST.

Normally, the Open/Close switch stays dark until you push it. The light will stay Solid Red when the roof is in operation until the ding sound. When the roof is locked in place, the trunk will close, otherwise it will stay open. So, judging from the photos and what you've described, you might have problems with the locking mechanism at the roof lock. Daryl is very knowledgeable with the roof operation, he could help.

During the diagnostic process the faults are erased, this restores operation of the top to allow the technician to test the top, tonneau cover and trunk lid operation. When a position switch failure is detected, the top or trunk lid may stop in mid position.

Your son continued to operate the top knowing there are two failures recorded. He should be able to gently push the trunk lid to the closed position and stop opening the top until he is ready to perform the repairs.

Nevada 100% correct.
Now your son needs to perform the manual roof operation steps in the owners manual.
there are also YouTube videos to help.

Once he gets it closed, just take it to a mechanic.

please report back with the solution so you will help the next person with this issue.

Eklectika , definitely reading this with great interest, one of my biggest concerns with this car is the top functioning properly. Have you ever lubed, or had lubed for you all the top mechanisms? Important to keeping everything running smoothly. Good luck on your endeavors and yes, be sure to let us know the outcome.

Have your son check the areas around the windshield frame where the roof connects. He should see two holes the roof pins go into. Make sure there is nothing blocking those holes, no matter how small.

If there is something blocking those holes, clean it out and try the roof again.

If that doesn't work, Close the roof as much as it will go. Then Follow these procedures and manually close the roof.the rest of the way. It sounds like you are at step 7 or 8

The good news is we know it is not a wiring issue. That makes diagnosis much easier.

Were you ever able to get access to techstream?

I re-read your post and realize that the roof latches you are talking about and I am talking about are different.

Are the latches that don't work, the latches the dealer said need to be replaced?

Watch this video and see if it helps you/your son understand what the problem is

It has been quite awhile since i had to fix my roof so it took me awhile to remember who to retract the pins that lock the back of the roof together. The pins are triggered by a cable attached to your roof hinge. You need to take out the carpet from your trunk to see them. It is possible one of them came loose.

Here are a couple of posts that explain the problem and how to fix it.
