Default Humming noise in the back section near the trunk

Help,
ANybody with an SC430, I just noticed this humming noise in the back section , near the trunk.
The humming is persistence, even when the car is not moving, just turning on the ignition will do it. I believe it's near the motorized section of the top convertible mechanical motor. Is this normal ?
Thanks

Hmm . . . I've never noticed that in my car. So it doesn't sound like it's normal.

It's the fan for the amplifier in the back.
I think it was a noisier issue in the early models:

I am having the same problem with noise in the trunk, it seems to be next to the gps dvd drive, and it comes on even with the key in the aux position. Is there a fan?

I was thinking fuel pump also until I found that whatever it is comes on when the key is in the accessory position. I don't think a fuel pump would be on then.

I would guess that anti-geek's (FIVE year old!!!) assumption is correct; the ML amp is directly behind the GPS system in the trunk.

And it's still making the noise after all these 7.5 years!
My advice? Take the top down -- you can't hear it then.

fuel pump is on the driver side, so I tend to think it is the ml amplifier, too.
If I remember it correctly, 02-09 SC430s have the same ml amplifier.

I have the same noise and just assumed it was the drive on the GPS unit. I see that there is a service bulletin on this. Sorry if I'm being dumb, but does that mean it is covered by Lexus even if the car is out of warranty (I have a 2002) or do I eat the cost? If the latter, any estimates on cost of replacing?

Again, thanks to all who contribute in making this site incredible!

Can someone answer my question on the service bulletin/coverage issue? Thanks.
