Nice family resemblance, but there's no way one can mistake them for one another unless one's eyesight is failing very badly. Not nearly as bad as the resemblance between a S class & a C class from far away.

I think that everyone except real SC430 people will easily mistake the Solara convert for the SC430 and while the styling may be some "weird Lexus thing", I don't like being told they now make my car in a ragtop version. I have been told this twice.

not really.... i already saw two different people mistaking the cars..... one said the solara is the "lexus hard top", and the other said the sc430 is just a normal toyota (and he meant the solara)

Yep, whoever said "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" is wrong. I don't feel flattered at all.

Haha, I've known many people who don't care much about cars except as means of transportation can't tell many car models apart, their opinions don't count Most people who is reasonably knowledgeable about cars shouldn't have any problem telling them apart, the Solara's shape is so much longer.

LOL yeah you'd be surprise how many people out there are like that. Before I heard about the new Solara, I remember someone asking me if I saw the new 'redesigned' SC. I was like "wth, how come I don't know about it?!"
It's very possible that the Solara was actually supposed to be the SC330. They probably just felt it wasn't aesthetically up to par for a Lexus so they made it a Solara instead. If you looked at the rear from a far, it really resembles the SC430. Especially the taillights.
I can understand why some SC owners would be upset about the similarity. But hey, at least the SC is the more attractive of the two. Imagine if the Solara actually looked better...lol there would be a lot more angry folks.

Certainly not worth getting upset about. To non-enthusiasts, who can't tell a Porsche from a Tiburon, it doesn't matter a bit. Kinda like the similarities between the SL500 and the SLK, the "S" class from the "C" class, the "S-Type" from the "X" , etc, etc, etc. The fact remains that there is no comparison and those in the "know" Know!

Gently to ya,

I must say it was a bit of a drag when a friend called and said “did you see that brand new Toyota convertible it looks just like your Lexus!” So I gotta agree with flat foot those who know, know. I’ve got also got a M5 and to most it’s just another BMW.

So what should we do? Demand that Toyota refund us $20-30 thousand dollars each for cheapening the image and damaging the resale/trade-in values of our cars?. Write letters of complaint? ???? Trade all SC430s for Boxsters?

George
